Add a driver
Communication drivers allow the communication device installed in a computer to communicate with the network it is attached to. You must configure the driver on the computer that the project will run on.
To add a driver
- From theCommunication Setupeditor or theCommunicationstab in theFactoryTalk Administration ConsoleorFactoryTalk View Studio, right-click on the device shown at the root, and clickAdd Driver.
- In theAdd Driver Selectiondialog box, the available drivers will appear. Select the driver you want to add, and clickOK.TIP:If you are using theFactoryTalk LinxInstance02 Server, you can only addEthernetdrivers.LocalFactoryTalk View SEorFactoryTalk View MEapplication doesn't supportFactoryTalk LinxInstance02 Server.
- From the applicable driver properties dialog box, enter the settings and clickOK.
- After you add the driver, right-click on the driver and then clickStart Browsingto populate the driver with devices.TIP:
- Tip: If you are adding a driver via an Ethernet network, from theCommunications Setupeditor, right-click on the network shown, then selectStart Browsingto populate the driver with devices.
- Some Ethernet devices may not support the browse protocol used byFactoryTalk Linxon Ethernet. If the devices you expect to appear during the browse do not display, right-click the network and clickAdd Deviceto manually add the device to the Ethernet network of the workstation. Before you add a device manually, you must register it using the Device Description File Installation Tool.
- The DHCP Host name or IP Address lists / range configuration for the Ethernet driver configured in theFactoryTalk LinxNetwork Browsercontrol embedded withinStudio 5000can be browsed in either theCommunications Setupeditor or theCommunicationstab in theFactoryTalk Administration Consolebut can only be modified from with the embeddedNetwork Browsercontrol.
