Configure for FactoryTalk View ME applications
When you create a Machine Edition application, a
FactoryTalk Linx
server is automatically inserted into the FactoryTalk Directory
at the appropriate location. Use the steps below to configure FactoryTalk Linx
to work with a Machine Edition application.To configure

for FactoryTalk View ME
applications- Optional -Register device description files in the Device Description File Installation Tool.
- Create a new configuration or use an existing configuration by launching theCommunication Setupeditor. AFactoryTalk Linxconfiguration consists of drivers and devices with which the client application will communicate.To create a new configuration, use theDesign (Local)tab to build a new configuration and then copy it to theRuntime (Target)tab when you are ready to create the runtime (.mer) file.
- Specify general server properties on theGeneraltab of theCommunication Setupeditor.
- Add drivers and devices to your network or workstations using the tabs on theCommunication Setupeditor. A driver is the software interface that allows you to communicate with your target hardware device.
- Create shortcuts that point to your target devices, or the devices that you want to collect data.
- Close theCommunication Setupeditor. You have now set up communications usingFactoryTalk Linx.
- Proceed to set up tags:

FactoryTalk Linx
runs as a service under the Windows LocalSystem account (that is, equivalent to Administrator).Provide Feedback
