Configure for FactoryTalk View ME applications

When you create a Machine Edition application, a
FactoryTalk Linx
server is automatically inserted into the
FactoryTalk Directory
at the appropriate location. Use the steps below to configure
FactoryTalk Linx
to work with a Machine Edition application.
To configure
FactoryTalk Linx
for
FactoryTalk View ME
applications
  1. Optional -
Register device description files in the Device Description File Installation Tool.
  2. Create a new configuration or use an existing configuration by launching the
    Communication Setup
    editor. A
    FactoryTalk Linx
configuration consists of drivers and devices with which the client application will communicate.
To create a new configuration, use the
    Design (Local)
tab to build a new configuration and then copy it to the
    Runtime (Target)
tab when you are ready to create the runtime (.mer) file.
  3. Specify general server properties on the
    General
    tab of the
    Communication Setup
    editor.
  4. Add drivers and devices to your network or workstations using the tabs on the
    Communication Setup
editor. A driver is the software interface that allows you to communicate with your target hardware device.
  5. Create shortcuts that point to your target devices, or the devices that you want to collect data.
  6. Close the
    Communication Setup
editor. You have now set up communications using
    FactoryTalk Linx
    .
  7. Proceed to set up tags:
    • If you are using

TIP:

runs as a service under the Windows LocalSystem account (that is, equivalent to Administrator).
