Configure for network (distributed) applications

Use the procedure below to configure
FactoryTalk Linx
to work with your network (distributed) applications.
To configure
FactoryTalk Linx
to work with network (distributed) applications:
  1. Add a
    FactoryTalk Linx
    data server to an application.
  2. Specify general
    FactoryTalk Linx
    server properties.
  3. (optional)Configure
    FactoryTalk Linx
    instance02 data server to allow applications to have more tags, data clients (for example, HMI clients), and/or controllers without affecting the other
    FactoryTalk Linx
    data server.
  4. (optional) Set up redundancy for a
    FactoryTalk Linx
    server to take over if the primary server fails.
  5. (optional) Configure
    FactoryTalk Linx
    to support
    FactoryTalk Alarms and Events
    .
  6. (optional) Register device description files in the
    Device Description File Installation Tool
    .
  7. Add drivers and devices to your network or workstations, using the tabs on the
    Communication Setup
    editor. A driver is the software interface that allows you to communicate with your target hardware device.
  8. Create shortcuts that point to your target devices, or the devices from which you wish to collect data, using the
    Communication Setup
    editor.
  9. Close the
    Communication Setup
    editor, and outside of
    FactoryTalk Linx
    , proceed to set up tags:
    • If you are setting up an application in the
      FactoryTalk Administration Console
      environment, refer to the
      FactoryTalk
      Administration Help.
    • If you are using
      FactoryTalk View SE
      , refer to the
      FactoryTalk View SE
      Help.
TIP:
FactoryTalk Linx
runs as a service under the Windows LocalSystem account (that is, equivalent to Administrator).
