ControlNet Scanner Properties, General tab settings

The
ControlNet Scanner Properties
dialog box,
General
tab contains the following information:
Setting
Description
Name
Used to view or adjust the device properties. The default name is 1784-PKTCS ControlNet Scanner. The name can have up to 256 characters, and cannot contain a period, left bracket, or right bracket.
Node Address
Used to set the node address. Valid values are 1-99 and must be unique. You will receive an error message if the address entered is a duplicate or if it is out of range.
Slot in Virtual Backplane
Used to set the slot number in the virtual backplane. Valid values are 1-16.
  • When a
    PanelView
device loads a ControlNet Scanner configuration, the virtual backplane slot number specified in the configuration is ignored. Instead, because there are only two slots in the
    PanelView
    Device's virtual backplane, with the
    PanelView
system itself residing in slot 0, the ControlNet Scanner is automatically assigned to slot 1.
TIP:
Keep the following in mind when installing or configuring 1784-PCIC(S) and 1784-PKTCS cards for the first time:
  • Under some circumstances,
    FactoryTalk Linx
is not able to recognize the 1784-PCIC(S) and 1784-PKTCS cards after the installation of their hardware drivers. If the LEDs on the card remain off after the card is configured, restart the computer.
  • There is a time delay between the addition of a 1784-PCIC(S) or 1784-PKTCS card to the topology and when the configuration takes effect. During this time, attempts to browse the ControlNet network may fail. If the ControlNet network does not display underneath the card in the communications tree, right-click the card and then click Stop Browsing from the context menu. Then right-click the card again and then click Start Browsing. Repeat this procedure until the network shows on the tree.
