Add a ControlNet scanner

In order to configure I/O on the ControlNet scanner in
FactoryTalk Linx
, the first step is to add a ControlNet scanner card in the
Add Device
dialog box.
To add a ControlNet scanner
  1. Right-click the virtual backplane (Communications tree,
    Communication Setup
    editor) and then click
    Add Device.
  2. Select the
    ControlNet Scanner card (1784-PKTCS)
    from the
    Add Device Selection
    dialog box to display the
    ControlNet Scanner Properties
    dialog box,
    General
    tab.
    TIP:
There can be only one ControlNet Scanner per
    PanelView
    device.
Note that this is the device to which you will configure a device shortcut. It is also important to note that you
    do not
need a 1784-PKTCS installed on the workstation you are using to develop the ControlNet I/O configuration. In that case, you will be able to define a configuration but you will not be able to test the HMI application on the workstation.
  3. In the
    General
    tab, enter the
    Name
. The default name is 1784-PKTCS ControlNet Scanner. The name can have up to 256 characters, and cannot contain a period, left bracket, or right bracket.
  4. In the
    General
    tab, select the
    Node Address
. Valid values are 1-99 and must be unique. You will receive an error message if the address entered is a duplicate or if it is out of range.
  5. In the
    General
tab, select a number in the
    Slot in Virtual Backplane
field. Valid values are 1-16. Refer to
ControlNet Scanner Properties, General tab settings
for details on the Slot address.
  6. Click
    OK
to save the settings and close the dialog box.
    TIP:
    When a
    PanelView
device loads a ControlNet Scanner configuration, the virtual backplane slot number specified in the configuration is ignored. Instead, since there are only two slots in the
    PanelView
    Device's virtual backplane, with the
    PanelView
system itself residing in slot 0, the ControlNet Scanner is automatically assigned to slot 1.
