Create a network station application

A network station application consists of a FactoryTalk Network Directory, one or more areas, one HMI server, one or more data servers, and HMI project components such as graphic displays, HMI tags, and data log models. To develop a network station application you create an application in FactoryTalk View Studio, add an HMI server to it, and then create the HMI project components.
To create a network station application:
  1. Select
    Start >
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    .
  2. In the
    Application Type Selection
dialog box, select the application type and click
    Continue
    .
  3. In the
    New/Open Site Edition Application
    dialog box, click the
    New
    tab.
  4. Type the name and description, select a default language, and click
    Create
    .
  5. (optional) To change the default folder of the HMI projects, use the HMI Projects Folder Path Config Utility to specify a new folder.
The tab includes the following options:
  • Application name
Type a name for the application using a maximum of 32 characters. You cannot change the name of an existing application. Extended ASCII characters or Unicode characters are not supported in the names for applications, areas, HMI servers, data servers, HMI tags,
    FactoryTalk Linx
shortcuts, and FactoryTalk View Studio application files (. SED).
  • Description
You can use the Description box to add additional information about the application, such as its location, or a version number. It appears in the Application Properties (General tab) and can be changed at any time.
  • Language
The language that is displayed is the language of the computer's operating system. You can use it or choose another. Whatever you choose will be the default language for the application.
Remarks
  • Alarm
is a reserved word in FactoryTalk View SE and cannot be used as the name of an HMI server in a FactoryTalk View SE network station application.
  • The list of languages in the Language box are all those that Windows supports. They are not necessarily installed on the computer. Languages that are installed on the computer are listed in the Regional and Languages Options of Windows Control Panel.
  • You can add the HMI server to the area at the root of the application, or you can add a separate area for it.
  • There can no more than one HMI server in a FactoryTalk View SE network station application.
  • If you plan to add a third-party OPC server to a network station application, it is best to place the data server in its own area, separate from the area where the HMI server resides. This avoids unnecessary OPC requests and reduces the overall number of OPC transactions between FactoryTalk Directory and the OPC data server.

FactoryTalk View Site Edition User's Guide
