Add an OPC data server - network station

OPC data servers provide a link between applications and third-party devices so applications can access device tags.
To add an OPC data server:
  1. In
    FactoryTalk View Studio
, in the Explorer window, right-click the application root, or right-click the area name, select
    Add New Server
    >
    OPC DA Server
    or
    OPC UA Server
    .
  2. Set up properties as needed. For details, see the product documentation.
  3. When finished, click
    OK
    .
Remarks
  • When adding a data server other than RSLinx Classic or
    FactoryTalk Linx
to a network distributed application, it is best to place the data server in its own area, separate from the area where the HMI server resides. This avoids unnecessary OPC requests and reduces the overall number of OPC transactions between FactoryTalk Directory and the OPC data server.
  • When running a
    FactoryTalk View
Site Edition application within a Windows workgroup, all Windows users should have Windows Administrative rights assigned to them.
  • Direct reference tags can be used to retrieve tag values via a
    FactoryTalk Linx
or OPC data server, from PLC5 controllers and all products in the
    Studio 5000
controller family including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FlexLogix, DriveLogix, SoftLogix, and GuardLogix controllers.
  • Names for the following
    FactoryTalk View Studio
components do not support extended ASCII characters or Unicode characters: applications, areas, HMI servers, data servers, HMI tags,
    FactoryTalk Linx
    shortcuts, and
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    application files (. SED).
  • For information about setting up an OPC server, see the FactoryTalk Help.
