About pinning or unpinning files or binders

Pin a version of a file or binder to mark it as the master. You can use pinned files and binders, but you cannot edit them. Use pinning when you want people to use an existing version while you continue to edit the most recent version. Also use pinning when you want to specify a particular version of a file or binder (other than the most recent version) as the master file for a Backup and Compare operation.
Pin a file or binder to use an existing version while development continues
If a pinned version of a file or binder exists, when users get the file or binder, they get the pinned version. If another user has the file or binder checked out, that user can continue editing it because they are working with the most recent version of the file rather than the pinned version. Say that the program for your Allen-Bradley PLC-5 controller is working as desired, but you are making edits to the file to accommodate new equipment. You don't want anyone using your updated file until everything is ready, so you pin the version you want people to use. When everything is ready, you can unpin the file so that people use the updated version of the file.
For example, if you pin version 3 and check out the file, you retrieve version 4 because you can only edit the most recent version of a file. If you save changes to the file, those changes are saved as version 5. If people get the file, they still get version 3, the pinned version.
Only one version of a file or binder can be pinned. To retrieve the latest version of a file or binder through a Get operation, unpin the file or binder.
