Items in the dialog box include:
  • Add_compare_engine_button
Click to add a new compare engine to the list.
  • Duplicate_compare_engine_button
Click to duplicate the selected compare engine.
  • Delete_compare_engine_button
Click to remove the selected compare engine from the list.
  • Export_button
Click to export this list to a file so that the list can be imported to another FactoryTalk AssetCentre server system.
    Use the
    Select Compare Engine
dialog box to specify which compare engines to export. You can use Shift+click and Ctrl+click to select multiple compare engines. Click
    OK
    .
    Use the
    Save As
dialog box to provide a file name and location for the exported list.
  • Import_button
Click to import a list of compare engines. Use the
    Open
dialog box to navigate to and select the list to import.
    TIP:
If a configuration has an exact duplicate, only one instance is imported.
  • Tabs underneath the buttons
Compare engines that have been added and configured.
    TIP:
WinMerge compares multiple folders and files, presenting detailed differences in a text format. It can be configured to perform archive comparison and Generic FTP Device or Remote Computer files comparison during Backup and Compare schedules. Select the
    Enable for DR Compare
check box to use WinMerge for the compare operations of Generic FTP Device or Remote Computer files.
After you add a new compare engine or import a list of compare engines, the compare engine configuration box shows. Items in this box include:
  • Description
Type the name of the comparison software. This is shown when a user has to choose the comparison software for a Backup and Compare schedule's compare configuration.
If you want to set up the same comparison software with different settings, you can add it more than once with another description each time.
  • Application
Use browse_button_small to navigate to the comparison software, or type the path and executable file name.
    TIP:
For WinMergeForDR, make sure that the file location for the application is C:\Users\Public\RockwellSoftware\AssetCentre.
  • Parameters
Specify the command line parameters used to run the selected comparison software. Refer to the software's documentation for correct syntax. Most will include two variables representing the items to be compared and may optionally include command line switches.
Initially this field is filled in with default parameters for the two items to be compared. These default variables may or may not be correct for a specific compare engine.
  • Timeout (seconds)
This text box is disabled by default. Selecting
    Enable for DR Compare
at the bottom of the dialog box turns on this text box.
Specify an integer from 0 to 3600 to set the maximum duration (in seconds) allowed for completing a compare operation on Generic FTP or Remote Computer files. If an operation exceeds the configured time, it will be forcibly ended and the schedule will proceed. The default setting is 180 (seconds), and an entry of 0 seconds indicates no timeout.
  • Report Location
This text box is disabled by default. Selecting
    Enable for DR Compare
at the bottom of the dialog box turns on this text box.
Use browse_button_small to choose a folder or enter a path used to save the compare report for a compare operation of Generic FTP or Remote Computer files.
    TIP:
For WinMergeForDR, make sure that the folder location for the report location is C:\Users\Public\RockwellSoftware\AssetCentre.
  • Extensions
    This box is disabled if
    Enable for DR Compare
at the bottom of the dialog box is selected. Clearing
    Enable for DR Compare
    turns on this box.
Type the file extensions that you would like to associate with this compare engine. When this type of file is selected for a Rockwell Automation Compare, the associated compare engine will be used to do the comparison.
You can specify multiple file types to be compared with this compare engine. List the file extensions on separate lines. Start the extension with a period. For example, .txt.
If you specify more than one compare engine for the same type of file, you will be asked which to use when a comparison on that type of file is run.
  • Fallback
This check box is disabled if
    Enable for DR Compare
at the bottom of the dialog box is selected. Clearing
    Enable for DR Compare
    turns on this check box.
Select this check box if you want this compare engine to be used when a Rockwell Automation Compare is run on a file type that does not have a compare engine assigned to it. You can specify more than one compare engine as a fallback.
  • fallback_icon
This icon next to a compare engine description in the left column of the dialog box marks compare engines that are specified as a fallback.
  • Enable for DR Compare
Select this check box to use the current compare engine for the compare operations of Generic FTP or Remote Computer files. Selecting this check box turns on the
    Timeout (seconds)
    and
    Report Location
    text boxes, while disabling the
    Extensions
    box and the
    Fallback
    check box.
    TIP:
A compare engine configured for use with Generic FTP or Remote Computer cannot be used for archive comparison, and vice versa.
