Associate a device in the Asset View with a networked device

If you added a device to FactoryTalk AssetCentre while disconnected from the control network, you must later edit the device to provide its network address.
Also be sure to add files to the device. Simply adding the device does not take advantage of any of AssetCentre's capabilities such as Disaster Recovery. You must also add files to the tree and associate those files with the device. This adds the file to Archive so that a user must check it out to make changes.
To edit an asset's properties, you need
Switch to Design mode
permission.
To associate a device asset with a physical device
  1. If you are not in it, enter Design mode.
  2. Right-click the device you need to connect and select
    Properties
    .
  3. Specify the device's network location.
    Click anywhere in the
    Addressing Info
field and then click browse_button_small to show an addressing dialog box for the type of device. Use this dialog box to browse the network for the device or to supply the addressing information for the physical device.
  4. Add a file, folder, or binder to the device asset. Click anywhere in the
    Configuration Data
field and then click browse_button_small. Use the
    Configuration Data Browser
dialog box to browse for file, folder, or binder associated with the device.
For some devices you may want to specify a binder for the
    Backup Data
field or let this be filled in during the first backup operation.
Simply adding the file, folder, or binder to the asset tree underneath the device does not associate it with that device for Disaster Recovery functions. You must use the
    Configuration Data
field to associate a file, folder, or binder with a device.
