Add a pen from a FactoryTalk Historian server

Use the
Add Pen Configuration
dialog box to add new, or existing FactoryTalk Historian SE data point (tags) in pen for trending (one pen per tag).
To add a pen from a FactoryTalk Historian server:
  1. From the
    Pens
    tab, select
    Historian Server
    from the list.
  2. Click
    Add Pen(s)
    .The
    Add Pen Configuration
    dialog box opens.
    • If you have at least one Historian server configured, you will see the name of that server.
    • If there is no server configured, you will see an error message.
      To trend data points from FactoryTalk Historian SE or ME, you need to install
      FactoryTalk Historian Connectivity
      from the FactoryTalk View installation package on the FactoryTalk View Studio or SE Client computer. For more information, see PI SDK Utility Help.

  3. If you want to add data points (tags) to the Historian SE server, click
    Create New Historian Tag
    . The
    Add Historian Points
    dialog box opens.
    For information on how to use the
    Add Historian Points
    dialog box, click
    Help
    in the dialog box.
  4. In the
    Enter or Select Tag
    field, type the name of the data point (tag) you want to add, or click the browse button (...) to open the
    Tag Search
    dialog box and search all the data points stored in the Historian server.
    For information on how to use the Tag Search dialog box, click
    Help
    in the dialog box.
  5. After you specify a tag, click
    Add
    to add the tag. The tag name will be validated.
    • If validation fails, a message is shown stating that the tag name is invalid, and you will have to specify another tag.
    • If validation succeeds, the name is added to the list.
      TIP:
      To remove a tag from the list, select it, click
      Remove
      and then click
      OK
      .
      To remove all the tags from the list, click
      Remove All
      and then click
      OK
      .
