FactoryTalk View Site Edition operation properties for disaster recovery

Following are all possible settings for disaster recovery schedules for FactoryTalk View Site Edition assets.
IMPORTANT:
When performing a disaster recovery schedule for FactoryTalk View Site Edition, simultaneously running a disaster recovery schedule for assets that use the VerificationAgent service might cause errors with the messages "Error: could not load agent" and "Error: could not load Verification agent".
Assets that use the VerificationAgent service to run disaster recovery schedules include Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 Controller, Allen-Bradley PanelView, Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus, Allen-Bradley MobileView, Allen-Bradley MicroLogix Controller, Allen-Bradley PLC-5, and Allen-Bradley SLC 500 Controller.
To avoid this problem, adjust the time intervals between disaster recovery schedules for FactoryTalk View Site Edition and disaster recovery schedules for assets that use the VerificationAgent service to prevent overlap. The interval duration depends on the size of the system, larger systems generally require longer intervals.
Use these settings to:
  • Specify default disaster recovery schedule settings for FactoryTalk View Site Edition assets in
    Tools > Options
    .
  • Specify the settings of a particular FactoryTalk View Site Edition asset in an existing schedule on the
    Schedules
tab. Changes to the settings within a schedule override the default settings for that instance.
Unless noted otherwise, each setting applies to backup schedules and backup and compare schedules.
(Backup and compare schedules only) Event Settings
  • Backup Compare Partner
(Only available when editing an existing schedule, not when setting defaults.) Specify the version of the backup data file to compare to the FactoryTalk View Site Edition asset files.
  • Create New Backup Version
    Set to
    Always
to create a backup version even if it is the same as the last compared backup version. This is the default setting.
    Set to
    On Differences Found
to create a backup version only if differences are found. If the existing backup is the same as the information in the FactoryTalk View Site Edition asset, then no backup is saved.
Asset specific properties
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Compare Options
Specify the components of the backup you want to include in the compare operation.
    TIP:
    The
    Compare Options
configuration is relevant to the backup version specified as
    Backup Compare Partner
    . After setting up the
    Compare Options
    , any changes to the
    Backup Compare Partner
    reset
    Compare Options
settings back to default, which is all options being selected. Thus, whenever changing the
    Backup Compare Partner
    , set up the
    Compare Options
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Create New Backup Version Due to Unmatched Passwords
If the archive version and the new backup file have different encryption passwords, they cannot be compared.
When the new backup file has a different encryption password:
    • Set to
      True
to create a backup version for it.
    • Set to
      False
to not create a backup version for it.
  • Include Data log
    Set to
    True
to include the data log files generated by FactoryTalk View Site Edition in the schedule.
    Set to
    False
to exclude the data log files generated by FactoryTalk View Site Edition in the schedule.
    TIP:
The size of FactoryTalk View Site Edition data log files could grow very large through the course of normal operation. Including data log files in a schedule may lead to an extensive operation time or even a failure if the total size of data log files exceeds 2 GB.
This configuration is different from the
    Data Log
    option in the
    Compare Options
dialog box. This configuration refers to the all the data log files while the
    Data Log
option refers to the data log configuration file (.mdf).
Email notification
You can type email recipients' addresses separated by semicolons (;) or select addresses from the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Address Book. To select addresses from the Address Book, click in the box, and then click browse_button_small. Complete the
Contacts and Groups
dialog box.
An email message will be sent to only one of these lists. For example, if differences are found when a backup and compare schedule runs, an email is sent to those on the
Event Compare Differences Detected
list. No email is sent to those on the
Event Completed
list.
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Event Compare Differences Detected
The email addresses, separated by semicolons (;), to which notification will be sent if the compare finds differences between the specified backup compare partner version and the data on the FactoryTalk View Site Edition asset.
  • Event Completed
The email addresses, separated by semicolons (;), to which notification will be sent when the operation completes for the asset. If a Backup and Compare schedule completes without differences, an email is sent to this list. If it completes with differences, an email is sent to the
    Event Compare Differences Detected
    list, not this list.
  • Event Failed
The email addresses, separated by semicolons (;), to which notification will be sent if the operation fails.
(Backup and compare schedules only) Attach report to email
  • Event Completed Differences Detected
    This value is
    True
by default, which will attach a report of differences to the email if the backup and compare schedule finds differences between the specified backup compare partner version and the data on the FactoryTalk View Site Edition asset. Select
    False
to send an email without an attached report.
