Open a file or binder from a desktop shortcut

You can use the desktop shortcut to open the file or binder (checking it out in the process) even while the FactoryTalk AssetCentre client software is not running. For a binder, the key file is opened.
Prerequisites
  • You must have a working folder defined before you can open and check out the file or binder. You must have
    CheckOut - CheckIn
permission to check out the file or binder while opening it.
  • File associations (associating a file type with a program) must also be set. FactoryTalk AssetCentre uses Windows file associations, provides some file associations itself, and provides means for you to set your own file associations.
To open a file or binder from a desktop shortcut
  1. Double-click the desktop icon for the file or binder.
  2. If the file or binder is checked out, the associated software program launches and opens the file or key file. For Siemens S5 and S7 projects, a list of editors is shown for you to choose from and then the editor is launched.
If the file or binder is not checked out, complete the
    Asset Retrieval Options
dialog box to place it in your working folder and open it.
