Set log overwrite options

Use
Local Log Destination Setup
to specify how the system handles new events when the local log file becomes full. The log file is stored as an event (.evtx) file in the location specified in
Logging path
.
To set log overwrite options
  1. In
    Local Log Destination Setup
    , under
    Log size
    , enter the
    Maximum log size
, in KB, for the local log. The default value is 25600 KB.
  2. Under
When maximum log size is reached
, specify how the system handles new events when the log becomes full. Select either:
    • Overwrite events as needed
      • All new events are written to the log.
      • When the log is full, the oldest event is deleted as each new event is written.
    • Archive the log when full
      • When the log is full, the events in the log are automatically saved to an archive file and a new log file is started.
    • Do not overwrite events (clear log manually)
      • If the log is full, new events are discarded.
      • This option requires manually clearing the log when it becomes full.
  3. If editing other settings in Diagnostics Setup, select
    Apply
to save the new local log setup. If finished making changes in
    Diagnostics Configuration
    , select
    OK
    to close the window.
  4. Reboot the machine to begin using the new destination folder for the local log.
