Local Log Destination Setup

How do I open Local Log Destination Setup?
  1. From the
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Tools
     menu, choose
    FactoryTalk Diagnostics > Setup
    .
  2. If prompted by
    Windows
     User Account Control to allow the application to make changes, selected
    Yes
    .
  3. In the
    Diagnostics Configuration
     window, expand
    Destination Setup
    , and then select
    Local Log
    .
Use
Local Log Destination Setup
 to configure settings for the local log installed on this computer.
TIP:
  • If the default destination for the Local Log file in the Logging path is changed, restart the computer for the new file location to be detected.
  • The Local Log default location is
    %SystemRoot%\system32\winevt\Logs
    .
These settings affect the single local log on this computer that any number of
FactoryTalk
 products and services may be using.
Setting
Description
Logging path
Identifies the location of the
FactoryTalk Diagnostics
 local log on this computer. To change the log location, select
Browse
 to locate the new folder. Reboot the machine for the new file location to be detected.
Maximum log size
Enter the maximum size of the log file, in KB, that you want to store. The overwrite options specify what happens when the maximum log size is reached.
The minimum log size is 1028 KB. Use the up or down buttons to change the maximum log size in increments of 64K. If a value is entered or selected that is not a multiple of 64, the log size is set to the nearest multiple of 64.
When maximum log size is reached:
Choose an option to control what happens if the log file reaches its maximum size limit:
  • Overwrite events as needed -
     Choose this option for all new events to be written to the log. When the log is full, each new event replaces the oldest event.
  • Archive the log when full
     - Choose this option to is automatically archive the contents of the log to a file when the maximum log size is reached and then clear the log.
  • Do not overwrite events (clear log manually) -
    When the maximum log size is reached, new events are discarded. This option requires manually clearing the log to continue logging events.
Clear Log
Permanently deletes all events from the log. Provides an option to save the logged events to a file.
