Add a DeviceNet Scanner

Use the
DeviceNet Scanner
on the
Design (Local)
tab of the
Communication Setup
editor to configure DeviceNet I/O. The first step to configure DeviceNet I/O is to add a DeviceNet Scanner.
TIP:
The DeviceNet Scanner card is the device to which you will configure a device shortcut. It is also important to note that you
do not
need a 1784-PCIDS card installed on the workstation you are using to develop the DeviceNet I/O configuration. In that case, you will be able to define a configuration, but you will not be able to test the HMI application on the workstation.
To add a DeviceNet Scanner to the configuration
  1. Right-click the virtual backplane (communications tree,
    Communication Setup
    editor) and then click
    Add Device.
  2. Click the
    DeviceNet Scanner card
    (1784-PCIDS) from the
    Add Device Selection
    dialog box to display the
    DeviceNet Scanner Properties
    dialog box,
    General
    tab.
  3. Set the
    Name
field. Enter a name with up to 256 characters that does not contain a period, left bracket, or right bracket.
  4. Select the
    Node Address
. Valid values are 0-63 and must be unique.
  5. Choose a value in the
    Slot in Virtual Backplane
    field. Valid values are 1-16.
  6. Set the
    Baud
field to configure the baud rate for the driver that transmits data to your device. Available baud rates are 125,000; 250,000; and 500,000. The default is 125,000.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click
      Apply
to apply the General tab settings and click the
      I/O
      tab to add an
      Address Block
      to the DeviceNet Scanner.
    • Click
      OK
to save the settings and close the dialog box.
      TIP:
      • There can be only one DeviceNet Scanner per
        PanelView
        device.
      • When a
        PanelView
device loads a DeviceNet Scanner configuration, the virtual backplane slot number specified in the configuration is ignored. Instead, because there are only two slots in the
        PanelView
        Device's virtual backplane, with the
        PanelView
system itself residing in slot 0, the DeviceNet Scanner is automatically assigned to slot 1.
