Logging information

The HMI tag database does not store actual tag values. Instead, it defines which values are to be collected. The specified HMI server stores the actual values. When this HMI server is turned off, the value table is cleared. To store the historical tag values, use the FactoryTalk View components:
  • DataLogPro
  • Data Log Models
The two data logging components provide some similar functions, for example, historical records stored in both components can be viewed with trends or data grid objects, and both components provide periodical, on-change, and on-demand options to trigger logging.
In addition to the common functions, DataLogPro provides a redesigned editor with more intuitive configurations and has better data logging and accessing performance. Different from Data Log Models that stores historical data in file sets or an ODBC-compliant database, DataLogPro stores historical data in the built-in or external InfluxDB, which is more efficient to manage time serious data.
DataLogPro
  • To log tag values, open the
    DataLogPro
editor, where you can drag multiple tags for logging, and specify log properties per tag or per group.
  • It automatically starts logging when a project is started.
  • You can online edit in the
    DataLogPro
editor without having to stop the data logging.
  • To ensure performance, we recommend that it should not exceed 50,000 tags logging at the same time per HMI server.
The logging performance depends on the server computer performance. The more tags are logged, the more memory and CPU usage is consumed.
  • The logged data is stored in the built-in or external InfluxBD.
Data Log Models
  • To log tag values, create a data log model and specify the tags that are to be logged. This is done in the
    Data Log Models
editor. If you want to log the values of multiple tag groups, you must create multiple data log models.
  • You must use the context menu or a command to start data logging.
  • An HMI server can have up to 20 data log models running at one time. The maximum number of tags that can be logged by one data log model is 10,000. The total number of characters and spaces allowed for the path and name of a tag in a data log model is 255.
  • Data log information is stored in file sets or an ODBC-compliant database.
