Column headings on the Personal and System Associations tabs

The column headings on the Personal and System Associations tabs are the same. They include:
  • Extension
The three-letter part of a file name that follows the period and designates the type of file. For example, the file
    boiler.rsp
is an RSLogix 5 project file.
  • Program
The software product that should be used to open the file type in the
    Extension
column. The executable program file is shown here. For example,
    RS500.exe
    .
  • Command Args
Command line arguments for the software product that will be used to open files of this type. Command line arguments are used to specify a particular behavior when a program is run from the Windows Command Prompt. For example, if you start Microsoft Word 2007 from the Command Prompt, you can use the
    /q
command line argument to start Word without showing the splash screen:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Winword.exe /q
In the context of FactoryTalk AssetCentre, command line arguments are used when a file in Archive
is opened using the associated software. For example, you can use the
    /preset
command line argument to open the project file in the RSTune Faceplate software for trend analysis.
Refer to the software program's documentation to find out what command line arguments are available in that software.
  • Description
A description of the file association. The file name shown in the
    Program
column can be very different than the actual product name. Usually the
    Description
column contains the name of the software for clarity. For example, a description of
    RSLogix 500
    explains the filename of RS500.exe.
  • Auto Check-In
Indicates whether the automatic check-in feature is enabled or disabled for this file type. When automatic check-in is enabled, a file of this type will be automatically checked in when editing is finished. Depending on the Monitor Type, the file will be checked in when the file is closed or when the associated program that was used to edit the file is closed.
  • Monitor Type
This column is only relevant if the
    Auto Check-In
    column shows
    Enabled
. It has to do with how FactoryTalk AssetCentre determines when to automatically check in a file.
