Add a file association

To add a file association,
you must have
Configure Personal Archive File Associations
or
Configure System Archive File Associations
permission
.
To add a file association
  1. Select
    Tools > Options
    .
  2. Under
    Category
    on the left side of the dialog box, select
    File Associations
    .
  3. On the
    Personal Associations
    or
    System Associations
    tab, click
    New.
    The
    File Association
    dialog box opens.
  4. In the
    File extension
    field, specify the file extensions (for example, acd, ccwsln, and rss) to be opened by the designated software product.
  5. In the
    Program
    field, click
    Browse
    to select the software product to open files with the indicated extension.
  6. In the
    Command Arg
    field, specify the command line arguments for the software product used to open files of this type.
  7. In the
    Description
    field, enter the name of the software.
    TIP:
    The file name in the
    Program
    field can be very different than the actual product name. It's recommended to enter the name of the software for clarity.
  8. Select the
    Automatically check in file or asset after editing
    box if you want files of this type to be automatically checked in when the editing program is closed.
  9. After you select the
    Automatically check in file or asset after editing
    box, the
    Monitor Type
    field becomes available.
    • Choose
      File
      for RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Logix Designer, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
    • Choose
      Process
      for Microsoft Notepad, Microsoft WordPad, FactoryTalk View ME (.mer), DriveTools (.dno), PanelBuilder (.pva), and the Siemens S7 Controllers (STEP7) editor.
  10. Click
    OK
    .
