Remote Computer operation properties for disaster recovery

Following are all possible settings for disaster recovery schedules for remote computer assets.
These settings are used for two purposes:
  • Specify default disaster recovery schedule settings for remote computers in
    Tools > Options
    .
  • Specify the settings of a particular remote computer asset in an existing schedule in the
    Schedules
tab. Changes to the settings within a schedule override the default settings for that instance.
Unless noted otherwise, each setting applies to backup schedules and backup and compare schedules.
Event Settings
  • Master File Path Name
(Only available when editing an existing schedule, not when setting defaults settings.) This box shows the binder used as the master in disaster recovery operations. Binders are kept in archive where several versions of the same binder may be stored. Disaster recovery operations use the pinned version of the binder or, if no version has been pinned, the most recent version of the binder. The binder is specified in the
    Configuration Data
field of the remote computer's properties.
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Promote New Upload to Master
    The default setting is
    False
    . If set to
    True
, when differences are detected this uploads the current binder contents as defined by the filters in the binder properties from the remote computer to Archive and makes the uploaded binder the master for the asset.
Asset-specific properties
  • File Configuration (Backup and compare schedules only)
Click browse_button_small in this box to specify the files and associated compare applications.
If WinMerge is configured as the compare engine for Generic FTP or Remote Computer through
    Tools > Options
, you can use WinMerge as the compare application to compare multiple files of Remote Computer. It will present detailed differences in a text format.
When editing a specific schedule, you do not need to specify files here if you set a default file configuration for remote computer assets through
    Tools > Options
. Changes made in the schedule will override defaults set through
    Tools > Options
    .
How is this different from the files you specified in the
    Configuration Data
field in the binder properties? The files specified in the binder properties determine which files to include in the binder, that is, which files will be stored in Archive. The
    File Configuration
properties for schedules determine which files in the binder the schedule should operate on and how to compare the files. You might have files in the binder that need to be protected in archive, but that do not need to be included in a compare operation.
Email notification
To complete any of the following fields by selecting addresses from the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Address Book, click the field, and then click browse_button_small. Complete the
Contacts and Groups
dialog box.
An email message will be sent to only one of these lists. For example, if differences are found when a backup and compare schedule runs, an email is sent to those on the
Event Compare Differences Detected
list. No email is sent to those on the
Event Completed
list.
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Event Compare Differences Detected
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent if the compare finds differences between the master for the asset stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the data on the actual remote computer.
  • Event Completed
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent when the operation completes for the asset. If a backup and compare schedule completes without differences, an email is sent to this list. If it completes with differences, an email is sent to the
    Event Compare Differences Detected
    list, not this list.
  • Event Failed
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent if the operation fails.
(Backup and compare schedules only) Attach report to email
  • Event Compare Differences Detected
    This defaults to
    False
    . Select
    True
to attach a report of differences to the email if the backup and compare schedule finds variations between the asset's master binder stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the binder information in the actual remote computer.
  • Event Completed
    This defaults to
    False
    . Select
    True
to attach a report to the email regarding whether or not the backup and compare event completed successfully.
