Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controller operation properties for disaster recovery and device monitor

Following are all possible settings for disaster recovery and device monitor schedules for Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controller assets.
These settings are used for two purposes:
  • Specify default disaster recovery schedule settings for Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controllers in
    Tools > Options
    .
  • Specify the settings of a particular Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controller asset in an existing schedule on the
    Schedules
tab. Changes to the settings within a schedule override the default settings for that instance.
Unless noted otherwise, each setting applies to backup schedules and backup and compare schedules.
Event Settings
  • (Disaster recovery schedules only) Master File Path Name
(Only available when editing an existing schedule, not when setting defaults.) This field specifies the master file to be used in Disaster Recovery operations. Files are kept in Archive where several versions of the same file may be stored. By default, Disaster Recovery operations use the pinned version of the specified file or, if no version has been pinned, the most recent version of the device's Configuration Data file. If you want to specify another version for the master file, click within this field and then click browse_button_small. Before you can edit this field, the device must have its Configuration Data defined in the device's properties.
  • (Disaster recovery - backup and compare schedules only) Promote New Upload to Master
    This defaults to
    False
    . If set to
    True
, when differences are detected this uploads the current file from the physical asset to Archive and makes that version the master file for the asset.
  • (Disaster recovery - backup and compare schedules only) Report Incremental Differences
This option determines which differences are included in the Backup and Compare report. Set this option to
    True
to only include those differences found since the last report was run. Set this option to
    False
to include all differences found between the master file in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the file in the device. To set this option to
    True
    , you must select
    Promote New Upload to Master
    (above).
    When setting
    Report Incremental Differences
    as
    True
    , the latest file with
    Incremental Checkpoint
label in the archive will be compared as master file when running Disaster and Recovery Schedule.
To avoid this problem, you can do the following steps:
    1. After upgrading or downgrading an Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controller’s firmware, open the FactoryTalk AssetCentre archive to check in the ACD file that matches Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controller firmware version.
    2. Select
      Add Label
to move the Incremental Checkpoint, and then select the
      Allow reuse of existing labels
      check box.
    3. In the
      Label
box, enter the label name exactly as
      Incremental Checkpoint
      .
The disaster and recovery schedule will now run successfully.
  • (Device monitor schedules only) Copy Controller Log to Audit Log
    When set to
    True
, each change reported by the controller is copied to an Audit Log entry while the schedule is running. When set to
    False
, no audit log entries are created.
(Disaster recovery schedules only) Asset-specific properties
  • Always Run Events
    When set to
    False
, FactoryTalk AssetCentre allows Logix 5000 to perform a correlation to determine if the version of the controller configuration file stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the version of the file in the physical controller match to a sufficient extent as determined by Logix Designer. If the correlation determines that the files are an exact match with the exception of tag data values, which are not considered, the backup operation or backup and compare operation will not take place. If the correlation determines there are program changes, for example, changes to ladder logic, the operation will take place and changes to the file will be backed up in Archive. During a backup and compare operation, no tag data value differences will be found during the comparison. This is because changes to tag value data are not retrieved from a controller during correlation. Select
    True
to always have the backup operation or backup and compare operation take place.
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Compare Options
To set the types of information you want to compare to the master file stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive, click in the field, and then click browse_button_small. Complete the
    Compare Options
    dialog box.
  • Tag Filter
To specify which tags you want to compare, click in the field, and then click the browse button browse_button_small. This opens the
    Tag Filter
dialog box from the Logix Designer Compare Tool. Use this dialog box to select the tags that you want to compare.
Email notification
To complete any of the following fields by selecting addresses from the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Address Book, click the field, and then click browse_button_small. Complete the
Contacts and Groups
dialog box.
An email message will be sent to only one of these lists. For example, if differences are found when a backup and compare schedule runs, an email is sent to those on the
Event Compare Differences Detected
list. No email is sent to those on the
Event Completed
list.
  • (Backup and compare schedules only) Event Compare Differences Detected
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent if the compare finds differences between the master file for the asset stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the configuration of the physical asset.
  • Event Completed
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent when the operation completes for the asset. If a Backup and Compare schedule completes without differences, an email is sent to this list. If it completes with differences, an email is sent to the
    Event Compare Differences Detected
    list, not this list.
  • Event Failed
The email addresses separated by semicolons (;) to which notification will be sent when the operation fails. For disaster recovery schedules, this message is sent when the backup or backup and compare operation fails to complete. For Device Monitor, this message is sent when communication to the controller is lost and the status shows
    Communication error
    .
(Backup and compare schedules only) Attach report to email
  • Event Compare Differences Detected
    This defaults to
    False
    . Select
    True
to attach a report of differences to the email if the backup and compare schedule finds differences between the asset's master file stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive and the configuration of the physical asset.
  • Event Completed
    This defaults to
    False
    . Select
    True
to attach a report to the email regarding whether or not the backup and compare event completed successfully.
