Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer

The Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer shows the results of a comparison initiated with the Rockwell Automation Compare feature of FactoryTalk AssetCentre for the following device or asset files: Allen-Bradley PLC-5 controllers, Allen-Bradley SLC 500 controllers, Allen-Bradley MicroLogix controllers, Rockwell Automation drives, Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus operator interfaces, Allen-Bradley MobileView operator interfaces, Asset Inventory, Allen-Bradley Stratix Switch, and FactoryTalk View Site Edition. For some of these device types, it also contains settings to specify device-specific behaviors for the comparison.
The Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer is also used when the compare engine (software program) for the file type is set to CRC. A comparison using the CRC engine shows whether or not there is a difference between the two files, but it does not identify the difference.
When the Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer opens it shows progress of the running comparison or waits for compare options to be specified (if needed for the type of files being compared).
Use the Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer
If you see a progress bar in the left pane, wait for the comparison to finish.
If parameters are shown in the lower right pane, set the parameters and then click
Compare
.
About the parts of the window
  • The large left pane
     shows a progress bar, the report, or an error message. A progress bar is shown while the comparison is in process. Once the comparison is finished successfully, the results are shown.
    You can select and copy information from this pane using standard Windows shortcut keys (
    Ctrl-A
     to select all and
    Ctrl-C
     to copy).
  • The upper right pane
     shows information about what is being compared. This may include:
    • the Windows path
    • the version for an item stored in Archive and selected from within FactoryTalk AssetCentre
    • the path to the asset in FactoryTalk AssetCentre
    • the description for an item stored in Archive and selected from within FactoryTalk AssetCentre
  • The lower right pane
     provides device-specific settings for the comparison if necessary for the type of files being compared. This pane is not shown if no settings are required.
About the menu bar
Items on the
File
menu are not available while the comparison is in progress; they become available when the comparison is complete. The
Help
menu is available.
  • File, Open
    Select a text file (.txt) to show in the left pane.
  • File, Save
    Save the compare report to a text (.txt) file. Save is not available if the file was opened from
    File > Open
    . If you want to save the file with another name, choose
    Save As
    .
  • File, Save As
    Save the compare report to a text (.txt) file.
  • File, Page Setup
    Opens the standard
    Windows Page Setup
     dialog box so you can set the paper size, orientation, and margins.
  • File, Print
    Prints the open file.
  • File, Close
    Closes the file.
  • File, Exit
    Closes the Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer.
  • Help, Show Help
    Shows this help topic.
  • Help, About
    Shows a dialog box with version and copyright information for the Rockwell Automation Compare Viewer.
