Security won't accept my password

Possible cause and solution:
  • If you had trouble remembering your password and made multiple attempts to log on, your user account might be locked out.
    If you are using a
    Windows
-linked account, enable the account in
    Windows
    or contact your system administrator.
  • Passwords are case-sensitive.
If you are certain that you are typing the correct password for the user account, check that the Caps Lock key is not on.
Some keyboard drivers will switch Caps Lock on automatically if you hold a Shift key down for a few seconds. If the Caps Lock light is off, press and then release the Shift key to ensure that your keyboard is not sending uppercase characters.
  • If a user account and a
    Windows
-linked user account both have the same user name but different passwords, you must include the domain name with the
    Windows
user name when logging on to
    FactoryTalk
    , like this:
    MyDomain\MyUserName
. Security always checks for a valid
    FactoryTalk
user account first. If it finds a matching user name, it attempts to authenticate the account using the password you entered. If the password applies to the
    Windows
-linked user account, the authentication fails.
  • You should use a password for all
    Windows
    accounts in a
    Windows
-linked group, otherwise you might experience intermittent security failures or an inability to log on. As a matter of good security practice, do not use blank passwords with accounts. If you do not want to use a password for
    Windows
-linked accounts, on your local computer disable the
    Windows
    local security policy
Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only
    .
  • If you cannot log on to
    FactoryTalk
    with a valid
    Windows
-linked user name and password, include the domain name before the user name, like this:
    MyDomain\MyUserName
    .
  • If you cannot log on to
    FactoryTalk
with an account that is a member of a
    Windows
-linked group, verify that the computer has logged in with the
    Windows
    domain local group.
  • Security settings are completely separate for the Network Directory and Local Directory. Changes you make to the security settings in the Network Directory do not affect the Local Directory and vice versa. If you are using both a Network and a Local directory, you must set up security in each directory separately. Ensure that you are logging on using the correct user name and password for the directory you have selected.
