I cannot log on to FactoryTalk
If you are having trouble logging on to
FactoryTalk
, check the following:- If you are having trouble logging on fromPanelView Plus, see "I cannot log on fromPanelView Plus."
- If you have attempted to log on several times and failed, a security policy may have locked or disabled your account. If you are using aFactoryTalkaccount, re-enable the user account. If you are using a Windows-linked account, and your account doesn't reset itself automatically after waiting about 15 minutes, enable the account inWindowsor contact yourWindowssystem administrator.
- Depending on the security policy settings in effect, you might not be able to log on to theFactoryTalkNetwork Directory, or aFactoryTalkproduct, from a computer that does not have an account in theFactoryTalkNetwork Directory. This problem can also occur if your computer's name has been changed or you are logging on from a remote computer. To correct this problem, log on to theFactoryTalkNetwork Directory as an administrator from another computer, and then add a computer or modify the computer account properties to update the computer name. AFactoryTalkLocal Directory does not have computer accounts, so changing the computer name does not affect your ability to log on.
- If you cannot log on to the computer hosting theFactoryTalkNetwork Directory server because its computer name has changed, run theFactoryTalkDirectory Configuration Wizard on that computer. This will add the computer account for you.
- To log on toFactoryTalk, all of the clocks of the computers participating in aFactoryTalksystem must be set to within a few minutes of each other.FactoryTalkautomatically handles time zone differences, but watch out for computers whose clocks are accidentally set twelve hours ahead or behind (AM instead of PM, or vice versa). This twelve-hour difference will prevent users from logging on. Use a time server to synchronize the clocks of computers participating in a distributed system.
- You might experience problems logging on toFactoryTalkusing aWindows-linked account orWindows-linked group account that has no password: "Unable to log on 'UserName'. The user account encountered a logon restriction violation."As a matter of good security practice, do not use blank passwords with accounts. If using a password is not possible, modify the Local Security Policy on the computer from which you are trying to log on:
- Go to theWindowsControl Panel.
- InControl Panel, double-clickAdministrative Toolsand then double-clickLocal Security Policy.
- In theLocal Security Settingswindow, expandLocal Policiesand then selectSecurity Options.
- Double-clickAccounts: Limit local use of blank passwords to console logon only.
- SelectDisabledand then selectOK.
- If you cannot log on toFactoryTalkwith a validWindows-linked user name and password, include the domain name before the user name, like this:MyDomain\MyUserName.
- If you cannot log on toFactoryTalkwith a valid account that is a member of aWindows-linked group, include the domain name before the user name, like this:MyDomain\MyUserName. If you still cannot log on, it could be because of an issue with the groups.
- If you cannot log on to aFactoryTalkLocal or Network Directory that was not previously using any security services, theWindowsAuthenticated Users group might have been deleted in the security settings for the directory. Add the Authenticated Users group again manually.
