I am locked out of the Administrator account

You might be unable to access a
FactoryTalk
administrator account if you accidentally disable the account manually, or if you repeatedly type the wrong password to the account when logging on. If you repeatedly typed the wrong password, the account was locked because of a security policy that locks user accounts after a specified number of failed logon attempts.
Solutions
  • FactoryTalk Security
allows multiple user accounts to be members of the Administrators group. If another user has a
    FactoryTalk
    account or
    Windows
-linked account that is a member of the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group, have that user unlock your account for you. If you have forgotten your password, have that user reset your password for you.
  • If you are logging on with a
    FactoryTalk
user account that is a member of the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group, but all accounts in the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group are either disabled or deleted, you must access the
    FactoryTalk Directory
in a special way. First, log on to
    Windows
    on the computer where the
    FactoryTalk
    Network Directory Server or
    FactoryTalk
Local Directory is located with a
    Windows
account that is a member of the local
    Windows
    Administrators group. Next, run the
    FactoryTalk Directory
    Configuration Wizard
. The wizard will prompt you to add the
    Windows
    Administrators group to the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group. You can then log on to the directory using any
    Windows
account that is a member of the
    Windows
Administrators group. If your system was running with tightened security, be sure to remove the
    Windows
    Administrators group from the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group when you log on.
  • If you are logging on with a
    FactoryTalk
user account that is a member of the
    FactoryTalk
Administrators group, and the account has been locked (for example, because of too many invalid logon attempts), run the
    FactoryTalk Directory
    Configuration Wizard
    on the
    FactoryTalk Directory
Server computer and then log on using the user name and password of the locked account. This will enable the account for you.
    TIP:
    To enable a locked
    FactoryTalk
administrator account, you must have both the original user name and password to the account. If either is lost, the account cannot be enabled. Contact

  • If you are logging on with a
    Windows
-linked account, unlock the account in
    Windows
    .
    IMPORTANT:
Security settings are completely separate in the Network Directory and Local Directory. Changes made to the security settings in the Network Directory do not affect the Local Directory and vice versa. If using both a Network and a Local directory, set up security in each directory separately.
