Suppress alarms
Suppress an alarm that is not needed temporarily. For example, suppress an alarm because the alarm is caused by another alarm that you are already working on.
Disable an alarm instead of suppressing it if you want to completely turn off the alarm detection logic for the alarm source, and prevent the alarm from being detected.
The ability to suppress or unsuppress an alarm is controlled by
FactoryTalk Security
.To suppress alarms in an application or area, you need the
Alarming > Suppress
security permission for the application or area.To suppress an alarm:
- In the Alarm and Event Summary event list, do one of the following:
- Select the alarms you want to suppress, and then click theSuppress selected alarm
toolbar button.
- Select the alarms you want to suppress, right-click the selection, and then clickSuppress.
- In theSuppress Alarmwindow, in theCommentbox, type a comment. For example, you can explain why the alarm is suppressed. Then clickSuppress. This comment is stored with the alarm and is logged to theCommentfield in the alarm history log, which you can view using the Alarm and Event Log Viewer.
The
Alarm Status Explorer
can also be used to suppress alarms.To suppress an alarm using the Alarm Status Explorer:
- On the toolbar, click theDisplay the Alarm Status Explorer
button or right-click an alarm and click
Alarm Statusto open the Alarm Status Explorer. - From theAlarm Status Explorer, select the alarm or alarms you want to suppress, and then click theSuppress selected alarm
toolbar button.
TIP:The Alarm and Event Summary can be configured to hide theSuppress selected alarmtoolbar button, which also hides the equivalent operation on the context (shortcut) menu.
