Suppress alarms

Suppress an alarm that is not needed temporarily. For example, suppress an alarm because the alarm is caused by another alarm that you are already working on.
Disable an alarm instead of suppressing it if you want to completely turn off the alarm detection logic for the alarm source, and prevent the alarm from being detected.
The ability to suppress or unsuppress an alarm is controlled by
FactoryTalk Security
.
To suppress alarms in an application or area, you need the
Alarming > Suppress
security permission for the application or area.
To suppress an alarm:
  1. In the Alarm and Event Summary event list, do one of the following:
    • Select the alarms you want to suppress, and then click the
      Suppress selected alarm
      BUTTON_Suppress_selected_alarm_source toolbar button.
    • Select the alarms you want to suppress, right-click the selection, and then click
      Suppress
      .
  2. In the
    Suppress Alarm
    window, in the
    Comment
box, type a comment. For example, you can explain why the alarm is suppressed. Then click
    Suppress
. This comment is stored with the alarm and is logged to the
    Comment
field in the alarm history log, which you can view using the Alarm and Event Log Viewer.
The
Alarm Status Explorer
can also be used to suppress alarms.
To suppress an alarm using the Alarm Status Explorer:

    Display the Alarm Status Explorer
Toolbar_ShowAlarmStatusExplorer button or right-click an alarm and click
    Alarm Status
to open the Alarm Status Explorer.
  2. From the
    Alarm Status Explorer
, select the alarm or alarms you want to suppress, and then click the
    Suppress selected alarm
    BUTTON_Suppress_selected_alarm_source toolbar button.
    TIP:
The Alarm and Event Summary can be configured to hide the
    Suppress selected alarm
toolbar button, which also hides the equivalent operation on the context (shortcut) menu.
