Disable alarms

Disabling an alarm:
  • Prevents the operator from being notified when the alarm condition occurs.
  • Removes the alarm from the Alarm and Event Banner and the Alarm and Event Summary.
The ability to disable an alarm is controlled by
FactoryTalk Security
.
To disable alarms in an application or area, you need the
Alarming > Enable/Disable
security permission for the application or area.
To disable alarms
  1. In the Alarm and Event Summary event list, do one of the following:
    • Select the alarms you want to disable, and then click the
      Disable selected alarm
      Toolbar_DisableSelected toolbar button.
    • Select the alarms you want to disable, right-click the selection, and then click
      Disable
      .
      TIP:
      Multiple alarms can be selected by clicking one event and then clicking a second event while holding down the shift key.
  2. In the
    Disable Alarm
    window, in the
    Comment
    box, type a comment, for example, to explain why the alarm is disabled, and then click
    Disable
    . This comment is stored with the alarm and is logged to the Comment field in the alarm history log, which you can view using the Alarm and Event Log Viewer.
The
Alarm Status Explorer
can also be used to disable alarms.
To disable an alarm using the Alarm Status Explorer
  1. On the toolbar, click the
    Display the Alarm Status Explorer
    Toolbar_ShowAlarmStatusExplorer button or right-click an alarm and click
    Alarm Status
    to open the Alarm Status Explorer.
  2. From the
    Alarm Status Explorer
    , select the alarm or alarms you want to disable, and then click the
    Disable selected alarm
    Toolbar_DisableSelected toolbar button.
