User Properties settings

Use these settings to specify properties for a new
FactoryTalk
user
or temporary user account. To modify the properties of a
Windows
-linked user account
, use

Setting
Description
User name
Type a short name for the user (for example, cjenkins).
Full name
Type the full name of the user (for example, Chris Jenkins).
Description
Type a description of the user (for example, Shift Supervisor). Example: Use to record the user's contact information, such as telephone number or email address.
E-mail
Type only one email address or group address, (for example
cjenkins@yourcompany.com
or
maintenance@yourcompany.com
), to associate with this account. Ensure the address entered is valid and correct. Some
FactoryTalk
-enabled products can send messages or notifications to an email address. For details, see the documentation supplied with the
FactoryTalk
-enabled product.
Account is disabled
Select to prevent the user from logging into the account. Clear to allow the user to log into the account.
Login method
Select how the user account logs in to
FactoryTalk
. Options are:
  • Password
    . The user needs to type a username and password to log on.
  • Badge only
    . The user only needs to tap the badge on the card reader to log on.
  • Password and Badge
    .The user needs to tap the badge on the card reader and type the username and password to log on.
Note
that reset password after switching the login method. Otherwise, the user may not be able to log on.
Password
Settings in this area apply to the password login method.
Password
Type a password for the user account. The field is displayed when a
FactoryTalk
user is added.
Confirm
Type the same password typed in
Password
. The field is displayed when a
FactoryTalk
user is added.
User must change password at next logon
When selected, forces the user to change the account password at next log on. Clear to allow the user to keep the same password.
User cannot change password
Select to prevent account password changes. Clear to allow account password changes.
Password never expires
Select to allow the user to keep the same password indefinitely. Clear to require that the user change the account password at intervals specified by the security policy.
Badge
Settings in this area apply to the badge login method.
Badge ID
Type the identification number associated with the badge assigned to the user account.
Scan
Uses the local card reader to obtain the Badge ID from the badge.
Disable date
Select a future date to disable an account automatically.
Account can use Temporary Passwords
These settings display when editing the properties of temporary
FactoryTalk
user account.
Groups Granting Temporary Passwords
Select groups that are authorized to grant a temporary password for the user account. Use
Granting Groups
to add or remove the groups permitted to grant a temporary password.
Duration for Temporary Passwords
Type or select a number between 1 and 120 to indicate the number of hours before the temporary password expires.
