Add an application

To organize project information and make it available to all products in a
FactoryTalk
system, add an application. Add elements such as servers (data servers, HMI servers, and alarm and event servers) and areas to the application. A
FactoryTalk
network directory can manage any number of separate network applications. A
FactoryTalk
local directory can manage any number of separate local applications.
Prerequisites
Adding applications requires these permissions:
  • Common > Create Children
  • Common > List Children
  • Common > Read
To add an application
  1. In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
    , right-click
    Network
    or
    Local
    , and then select
    New Application
    .
  2. In
    New Application
    , type a name and optional description, and then select
    OK
    .
    Application names can contain alphanumeric characters, underscores, and spaces; however, names cannot start with an underscore ('_') or a space.
    TIP:
    • To add data servers to your application, in
      FactoryTalk Administration Console
      Explorer
      , right-click the application, and then select
      Add New Server.
    • To add optional areas to organize a network application, right-click the application, and then select
      New Area.
