Retentivity storage

Retentivity storage enables you to retain changes made to the project at runtime in a data store.
TIP: You can use retentivity storage to retain information about user-specific settings. If you change the settings at runtime, the changes persist when you stop the
FactoryTalk Optix Application
and run it again.

Default retentivity storages

Each new
FactoryTalk Optix
project has these default retentivity storage objects:
SecurityRetentivityStorage
Records information about users and groups added to the project.
AlarmsRetentivityStorage
Records information about alarms added to the project.
TIP:
Rockwell Automation
recommends keeping the default retentivity storage objects in your projects.

Custom retentivity storages

You can create multiple custom retentivity storage objects in your project.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that retentivity storages monitor independent parts of the project (Nodes) and do not intersect with each other. For more information about nodes, see Nodes and Project nodes.
For projects uploaded from devices, you can decide whether to retain or delete data from retentivity storages.
Each retentivity storage object has the same properties.
You can back up and restore data of retentivity storages:
To track completed backups, use Backup Completed event in your application logic.

Retentivity storage location

The default location of the
RetentivityStorage.db
file depends on the platform running the
FactoryTalk Optix Application
.
Windows PC
  • Emulation in
    FactoryTalk Optix Studio
    :
    C:\Users\

    \AppData\Local\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\Emulator\Projects\

    \ApplicationFiles
  • FactoryTalk Optix Application

Linux HMI

IMPORTANT: High Availability: This local
RetentivityStorage.db
file is used only when the project runs standalone. If you add the HighAvailability module to the project, all retentivity storage objects, including the default objects and any custom objects, automatically switch to the shared cluster database instead of the local file. This change occurs when the module is added. No manual migration or reconfiguration of individual retentivity storage objects is required.
