Edit general display settings (General tab)

To edit the runtime property settings for a display
  1. Click the
    General
    tab in the
    Display Settings
     dialog box.
  2. Edit the settings presented on this tab.
Options
  • Display Type
    • Replace
      Choose
      Replace
       to have this display close any open displays on the screen at runtime. Replace displays use the size specified for the
      Project window size
       option in the
      Project Settings
       dialog box.
      Replace displays do not close displays of the type On Top that have the
      Cannot Be Replaced
       option selected. Only one Replace display can be open at a time.
    • On Top
      Choose
      On Top
       to position the display in front of any other display (of On Top or Replace types) that is already open at runtime. On Top displays can be any size or position.
      • Cannot Be Replaced.
        Check this box to keep the display open and on top when a Replace display opens at runtime.
        TIP:
        On Top displays that cannot be replaced may be hidden behind other On Top displays that cannot be replaced when they are opened by a remote screen change.
  • Size
    For On Top displays, specify the display size. The size cannot be changed at runtime.
    • Use Current Size
      Choose this option to size the display using the mouse. If you choose this option, the Width and Height input boxes are not available.
    • Specify Size in Pixels
      Choose this option when you want to specify a fixed width and height in pixels for the display, rather than using the mouse to size the display.
  • Position
    For On Top displays, specify the display position. These settings determine the position of the display when it is opened at runtime, relative to the upper left corner of the application window.
    However, if the operator opens the display using a goto display button or display list selector object that has "Display position enabled" selected, the Display Settings Position options are ignored. Instead, the "Top position" and "Left position" settings specified for the button or list selector determine the display’s position.
    • X
      Specify the horizontal position of the graphic in pixels. The default is 0, which positions the left side of the graphic display on the left edge of the application window.
    • Y
      Specify the vertical position of the graphic in pixels. The default is 0, which positions the top edge of the graphic display on the top edge of the application window.
  • Display Number
    If you don’t intend to change displays using a data source, accept the default display number.
    To change the display remotely, type a number for the display. This number is used to automatically control display changes, using the Remote Display Number control.
    Assign this control in the
    Global Connections
     editor, and configure the data source to change the control value and open displays as required (using the display number to designate the display to open).
    TIP:
    If you want to use global connections, you must make sure that each display has its own unique number, that is, that no two displays have the same number. If more than one display is assigned the same display number, you cannot be certain which display global connections will open at runtime.
  • Security Code
    Click the down arrow to display the security codes. The default code is *, which, in RSView 3.x, gives access to the display to all users. In RSView 4.0, the * gives access to the display to any user who has at least one security code, A-P, assigned.
    Choose a security code from A to P to restrict access to the display so that only users who have the display's security code specified in their account will be able to display it.
    If you assign the Remote Display Number control in the Global Connections editor, remote display changes occur whether or not the logged-in user has security access to a given display.
  • Title Bar
    Check this box to include a title bar for an On Top graphic display at runtime. You can type a name for the display that will be used in place of its component name in the title bar.
    • Insert variable
      To insert a variable in the title bar, click the box and select the type of variable to be inserted from the list. In the dialog box, specify the details of the variable and then click OK.
  • Background Color
    Click this box to select the background color for the graphic display. If you want the background to have a gradient look, select Use gradient style check box. In this case, clicking the color square brings up the gradient fill dialog box.
  • Support Multiple Languages
    Only library displays have this property.
    Check this box if you want the objects in the library display to support multiple languages. If this box is not checked, a library display will display only one set of strings, in the language in which the application was shipped. If this box is checked, a library display will support an unlimited number of languages. When an object is dragged or copied from a library display to an application display, any strings that match a language supported by the application will be copied. Any strings in languages not supported by the application will not be copied. If an entire library that supports multiple languages is copied to the Displays folder, all text strings are copied with the library.
    The default for all new library displays is for this option to be turned on (the check box is checked).
    For library displays that are shipped with FactoryTalk View, this option is turned off (the check box is cleared).
  • Disable Initial Input Focus
    Check this box if you do not want the display to take input focus when it opens. (You might do this if you want an on-top display such as the alarm banner to retain its focus when an underlying screen changes.) The operator can then touch or click the display to give it input focus.
  • Maximum Tag Update Rate
    Specify the maximum rate at which data servers will send data to the tags used in the display, including tags used in expressions and embedded variables. The default update rate is 1.0 second`. If the update rate is changed, the new rate will not take effect until the display is closed and re-opened.
    At runtime, all tags are updated immediately when the display is opened, regardless of the update rate.
