Generic FTP Device operation properties for disaster recovery
Following are all possible settings for disaster recovery schedules for FTP device
assets.
These settings are used for two purposes:
- Specify default disaster recovery schedule settings for FTP devices inTools > Options.
- Specify the settings of a particular FTP device asset in an existing schedule on theSchedulestab. Changes to the settings within a schedule override the default settings for that instance.TIP:To perform disaster recovery operations on an FTP device containing subdirectories, the FTP device must support the DIR and LS commands. To verify this, use Command Prompt in Windows to log on to the FTP device. TypeDIRand pressEnter. Then typelsand pressEnter. Commands should issue the same results.
Unless noted otherwise, each setting applies to backup schedules and backup and compare schedules.
(Backup and compare schedules only) Event Settings
- Backup Compare Partner(Only available when editing an existing schedule, not when setting defaults.) Specify the version of the backup data binder to compare to the device files.
- Configuration Data Compare Partner(Only available when editing an existing schedule, not when setting defaults.) For Generic FTP devices, the configuration data is not compared during a backup and compare operation unless specified. Specify whether to compare to configuration data and, if so, specify the version of the configuration data binder to compare to the device files.
- Create New Backup VersionSet toAlwaysto create a backup version even if it is exactly the same as the last compared backup version. This is the default setting.Set toOn Differences Foundto create a backup version only if differences are found. If the existing backup is the same as the information in the processor, no backup is saved.
Asset specific properties
- Compare ConfigurationClick
in this box to specify the files and associated compare applications. The files and file types in the binder are compared against the files available on the FTP server. If WinMerge is configured as the compare engine for Generic FTP or Remote Computer throughTools > Options, you can use WinMerge as the compare application to compare multiple files of Generic FTP. It will present detailed differences in a text format. The report that is generated as a result of this configuration lists the comparison results as well as the files that were not selected for comparison. When editing a specific schedule, you do not need to specify files here if you set a default file configuration for generic FTP devices throughTools > Options. Changes made in the schedule will override defaults set throughTools > Options. How is this different from the files you specified in theConfiguration Datafield in the binder properties? The files specified in the binder properties determine which files to include in the binder, that is, which files will be stored inArchive. TheCompare Configurationproperties for schedules determine which files in the binder the schedule should operate on. You might have files in the binder that need to be protected inArchive, but that do not need to be included in a compare operation.
