Items in Scanning Configuration dialog box

Items in the dialog box include:
  • Scan devices using CIP
    IMPORTANT:
When performing a CIP scan with an Ethernet/IP, predicting the depth level of discoverable bridged assets can be difficult. Given that the CIP imposes a depth limitation of seven levels, we recommend creating additional Asset Inventory disaster recovery schedules to ensure the capture of more devices if you are using an Ethernet/IP to perform a CIP scan. While it is possible to exceed seven levels when bridging to different networks using DeviceNet or ControlNet, the actual depth level depends on the specific network structure.
    • Start scanning from this device
      Click browse_button_small next to the
      Start scanning from this device
field and select the device to start scanning.
    • Maximum scanning depth
Enter the value for maximum scanning depth. The valid value is between 1 and 100. You need to clear the
      Unlimited scanning
check box before entering the value.
    • Unlimited scanning
      Keep the
      Unlimited scanning
check box selected if you don't want to limit the scanning depth. Clear the check box to enter the maximum scanning depth.
  • Scan devices using SNMP
    • If the
      IP address range
      option is selected, specify the
      Start IP address
      and
      End IP address
      .
      Keep the
      Unlimited hops
check box selected if you don't want to limit the number of hops. Clear the check box to enter the maximum number of hops.
    • If the
      IP subnet
      option is selected, specify the
      Network IP address
      ,
      Subnet mask
      , and
      Host address range
      .
  • Scan software using WMI
    TIP:
Before performing an Asset Inventory WMI scan on a remote computer, please ensure:
    • Port 135 on the remote computer is turned on.
    • The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.
    • Firewall on the remote computer is set to allow any IP Address or Specified IP that the Scan server used.
To configure the Windows Defender Firewall
      1. Go to
Control Panel > System Security > Windows Defender Firewall
      .
      2. On the left column, select
Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
      , and then select the
      Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
check box. For some operating systems, you may have to skip to step 3 and step 4 to configure the firewall settings.
      3. (optional) On the left column, select
      Advanced settings
      , and then go to
Inbound Rules > Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI-In)
      .
      4. (optional) On the
      Scope
      tab, select
      Any IP address
      in the
      Remote IP address
      box.
    • Scan type
      Select
      Changes from last scan
to only scan the changes compared to the last scan.
      Select
      Full scan
      to perform a full scan.
    • If the
      IP address range
      option is selected, specify the
      Start IP address
      and
      End IP address
      .
      Keep the
      Unlimited hops
check box selected if you don't want to limit the number of hops. Clear the check box to enter the maximum number of hops.
    • If the
      IP subnet
      option is selected, specify the
      Network IP address
      ,
      Subnet mask
      , and
      Host address range
      .
Specify a login account. The account format varies for domain and local accounts.
      • For domain accounts:
        domain\username
      • For local accounts:
        Computer name\username
TIP: Ensure that the specified login account has the administrator access to each local computer.
    • Password
Specify the password for the account.
  • Advanced Settings
Click the button to configure the following settings:
    • Maximum scanning time [min]
    • Device response timeout [msec]
    • Node identification timeout [sec]
    • Community string
    • Host response timeout [msec]
