About utilities

FactoryTalk AssetCentre comes with several utilities for administering the system. These utilities fall into two categories:
  • Component location utilities
  • Log management utilities
Component location utilities
FactoryTalk AssetCentre uses three utilities to specify software locations so that all components can find each other.
  • Data Source Configuration wizard
This wizard tells the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server where the SQL Server is located and how to connect to it. For example, if you move the SQL server, but not the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server or the FactoryTalk Directory, you would use this utility to tell the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server where the new SQL database is located.
To access the Data Source Configuration wizard, on the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server computer, select
Start > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk AssetCentre Data Source Configuration
. See Change the SQL Server user account.
  • Server Settings utility
This utility tells the FactoryTalk Directory where the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server is located. The FactoryTalk Directory, in turn, provides this information to the FactoryTalk AssetCentre clients. This utility is run during the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server installation and should rarely be needed otherwise.
To access the Server Settings utility, on the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server computer, select
Start > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk AssetCentre Server Settings
    . See Change server settings.
  • Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location
This utility tells computers in the system where the FactoryTalk Network Directory is located. For example, if you move the FactoryTalk Network Directory, but not the SQL Server or the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server, you would run this utility on the server, client, and agent computers to tell those machines where the new FactoryTalk Network Directory is located.
To access the Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location utility, select
Start > Rockwell Software > Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location
    .
Log management utilities
  • Log Cleanup Wizard
Use this utility to remove old data from the logs (Event, Audit, and Diagnostics and Health Logs). You can export data to a separate file before it is deleted from the database. You can remove a maximum of 1 GB data or 500,000 pieces of logs at one time.
To access the Log Cleanup Wizard, select
    Tools > Log Cleanup Wizard
    .
  • Exported Log Viewer
Use this utility to view data that was removed from a database and saved using the Log Cleanup Wizard.
To access the Exported Log Viewer, select
Start > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk AssetCentre Exported Log Viewer
