Restore overview

When restoring, To:
  • Restore to a remote computer, run the HMI Server Backup and Restore utility on the destination computer where you want the files restored.
  • Restore multiple HMI servers, restore each one separately.
  • Rename an HMI server, do so in
    FactoryTalk View Studio
after restoring the HMI server. Do not rename the server using the HMI Server Backup and Restore utility.
Remarks
  • You cannot cancel a restore that is in progress
Because the HMI project is not rolled back to where it was before you started the restore, canceling a restore is not currently supported.
  • Recovering project components added since the backup was made
When restoring, any project components other than tags and alarms you added since your backup will not be deleted, but might not be displayed in the Explorer tree. Any new tags or alarms you added since the backup was made will be lost when you restore the HMI server project. You must recreate any missing alarms or tags.
  • You cannot prevent included data log file sets from being restored
Any data log file sets stored with the HMI server and included in the backup file are restored by default. You cannot prevent these from being restored if they exist in the backup (*.sed) file.
If you want to exclude the backup file sets but are not sure whether the *.sed file contains them, back up the HMI server again and select the
Exclude the data log file sets
    check box.
  • You cannot restore an HMI server to a remote computer
Unlike backing up, you cannot use command-line parameters with the HMI Server Backup and Restore utility to restore an HMI server to a remote computer. You can run the restore only on the target computer where the HMI server will run.
  • Restore data log models within different FactoryTalk Directory
Starting from FactoryTalk View SE version 14.00, the data log configuration for the ODBC database is bound with a specific FactoryTalk Directory. As a result, when importing data log MDF files or restoring an HMI server with data logs within a different FactoryTalk Directory, you must enter a username and password on the
    Setup
tab of the Data Log Models editor to connect to the ODBC database.
