Restore an HMI Server to overwrite an existing HMI server

Use the HMI Server Backup and Restore utility to restore an HMI server to an existing HMI server using the backup files created with this utility.
Before you begin:
  • Ensure that the HMI server project file (*.sed) you want to restore is located in a folder with the same name as the HMI server project file. For example, to restore a backup file called
    Packaging.sed
, the path to the file must end in
    ...\Packaging\Packaging.sed
. Also ensure that there is only one *.sed file in that folder.
  • Ensure that the target HMI server you are overwriting is not running. To stop an HMI Server, use
    FactoryTalk View Studio
. If there is a chance that the HMI server could be started by remote clients, disable the Rockwell HMI Framework service temporarily.
To overwrite an existing HMI server with a backup:
  1. In the HMI Server Backup and Restore utility, click
    Restore HMI Server
    .
  2. In the
    Source HMI server path
box, type or browse for the *.sed file you want to restore.
  3. Click
    Select destination HMI Server path
, and then type or browse for the path to the *.sed file you want to overwrite on your computer's local hard disk or on a mapped network drive.
  4. Click
    Start Restore
    .
  5. When the restore is complete, use
    FactoryTalk View Studio
to start the restored HMI server. If the HMI server is set to start on system startup, restart the computer.
