Configure the Internet Protocol settings

Use the
Internet Protocol
view
to configure the Internet Protocol (IP) settings for non-controller devices. The
Internet Protocol
view is only available for devices with an embedded Ethernet port.
TIP:
The settings are read-only when the device is a controller. In addition, the settings appear shaded and have no value when the device is:
  • offline.
  • online and a communication error occurs.
  • configured using the switches on the device (for those devices that support setting the IP address by switches)
Prerequisites
  • You must be online and communicating with the device.
  • Ensure a connection interruption at this time is acceptable.
    IMPORTANT:
Configuring the IP settings requires data to be written to the device, which interrupts the connection to the device and to any other device that is connected through it. Connections from other controllers may be interrupted as well. You must not interrupt the connection on a device that is currently being used for control.
To configure the IP settings
  1. On the tab for the device, select
    Internet Protocol
    .
  2. In the

    • Physical device IP Address
Enter a unique address used by the IP protocol to route information to and from the device.
      TIP:
If a message appears indicating that the IP address in physical device does not match the one in device properties, select
      Use Properties IP Address
      to populate
      Physical device IP address
      with the data from the
      Overview
      view.

    • Enter the address used to connect individual physical networks into a system of networks.
