What is an Alias Topic

An Alias topic is a virtual or redundant topic that you can use to reference other topics.
With Alias topics, you can:
  • Define a virtual topic, which can be directed to one of several physical PLC devices, with automatic switchover.
  • Configure the criteria used for switching from primary to backup devices
  • Force a switchover using a
    DDE Execute
     command.
For example, if you have a PLC accessed by an Ethernet driver, a KT driver, and a DF1 driver, you could create three topics. You can create an alias topic, which prioritizes an Ethernet driver topic, KT driver topic, and DF1 driver topic.
