Single sign-on

When enabled, the single sign-on capability allows logging on just once, per directory, on a given computer. Once logged on, all participating
FactoryTalk
products that run in that directory on that computer automatically use those same security credentials. This allows working with multiple
Rockwell Automation
products simultaneously, without having to log on to each software product separately.
For example, single sign-on capability is enabled. Jane has a user account and logs on to
FactoryTalk Administration Console
with the username "Jane" and the password "robotics." Behind the scenes,
FactoryTalk Security
uses this same name and password to silently log Jane on to the
FactoryTalk Directory
. If Jane later starts
FactoryTalk View
, the system uses her security credentials and allows her to run the product without prompting her to log on again, even if she closed
FactoryTalk Administration Console
.
Closing
FactoryTalk Administration Console
or other
FactoryTalk
products does not log the user off from
FactoryTalk
. Consider this example:
Jane logs on to the
FactoryTalk Administration Console
with the username "Administrator" and later closes
FactoryTalk Administration Console
. While Jane is out for lunch, Joe uses Jane's computer to run
FactoryTalk View
. When he starts up the software, he is not prompted to log on, because Jane's "Administrator" account is still logged on to the
FactoryTalk
system. Joe now has Jane's "Administrator" security rights in every
FactoryTalk
product he runs, until the computer logs off
Windows
or until someone uses the Log On to
FactoryTalk
tool to log off "Administrator."
