Change a computer name in the FactoryTalk network directory

Use
Computer Properties
to modify the name of a computer, its description, and the computer groups to which it belongs. If a computer participating in a
FactoryTalk
network directory has an account in the Network Directory, and if the name of that computer changes, update the computer account in the Network Directory to match the new
Windows
computer name for that computer. Computer and computer group accounts are not linked to
Windows
computer accounts and do not automatically update.
Prerequisites
Changing a computer name in the
FactoryTalk
network directory requires these permissions:
  • Common > List Children
  • Common > Read
  • Common > Write
  • Membership in the Administrator group.

  2. In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
    , expand
    System
    >
    Computers
, right-click the computer account whose name you need to change, and then select
    Properties
    .
  3. In
    Computer name
    , type the new
    Windows
computer name for the computer, or select
    Browse
to select the computer, and then select
