Security Settings-Permissions

How do I open Security Settings?
  • In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
, right-click the resource and then select
    Security
    .
Use the
Permissions
tab in the
Security Settings
dialog box to specify permissions that indicate which users or groups can perform actions on a resource, optionally from a specific computer or group. Permissions determine:
  • who (what user or group of users)
  • located where (on what computer or group of computers)
  • can do what (perform what actions) with the resource
Right-click an item in the
Explorer
, and select
Security
to set the security permissions for the resource.
IMPORTANT:
Right-clicking the
System
folder,
Users and Computers
folder,
Users
folder, or the
Computers
folder, and specifying security permissions sets security on that actual folder-it does not limit users’ access to the system.
To limit access to resources in the
FactoryTalk
system, right-click the resource, select
Security
and specify security permissions for the user and computer accounts.
Security for computers cannot be specified in a Local Directory.

Do not inherit permissions
This setting does not appear when configuring security on the
FactoryTalk Directory
itself, or when configuring feature security for product policies.
Select
Do not inherit permissions
to break the chain of inheritance for permissions assigned to this resource. Clear to make the resource inherit permissions from higher levels in the
FactoryTalk
network directory or
FactoryTalk
local directory tree.
Permissions inherited from higher levels do not override permissions specified explicitly for the resource. Explicit permissions always override inherited permissions, so breaking the chain of inheritance may not be necessary.
