Set FactoryTalk Directory permissions
Set permissions on your
FactoryTalk Directory
folder to control whether a user or group can:- See the directory or its contents (Read)
- Modify the properties of any item in the directory (Write)
- Add applications, areas, and data servers to the directory (Create Children)
- Change the security settings of the directory (Configure Security)
- View child folders within the directory (List Children)
- Write tags in data servers (Write Value)
- Perform other product-specific actions
- Perform actions defined in user action groupsTIP:
- DenyingWriteprevents users from modifying the properties of any item in the directory. However, ifCreate Childrenis allowed, the user or group can add items to the directory.
- TheWrite Valueaction does not prevent users from writing values to tags in specific hardware devices.
Prerequisites
Setting
FactoryTalk Directory
permissions requires these permissions:- Common > Read
- Common > Configure Security
To set
FactoryTalk Directory
permissions- InFactoryTalk Administration ConsoleExplorer, right-click theFactoryTalknetwork or local directory, and selectSecurity.
- InSecurity Settings for [Local or Network], in thePermissionstab, either:
- Set permissions by user:
- SelectUser.
- InUsers and Computers, select a user and computer.
- InAction, expand the category that contains the action to secure, and select the action.
- Set permissions by action:
- SelectAction.
- InAction, expand the category that contains the action to secure, and select the action. If the list of actions is blank, add users and computers first.
- InUsers and Computers, select a user and computer.
- SelectAlloworDeny.
- (optional) To control access to the action by another user or group, selectAddand select the user or group, and computer or group, and selectOK.
- When finished configuring security for theFactoryTalk Directory, selectOK.
