Edit or view computer properties

Modify the name of a computer, its description, and the computer groups to which it belongs in
General Computer Properties
.
Prerequisites
Editing or viewing computer properties requires these permissions:
  • Common > List Children
  • Common > Read
  • Common > Write
To edit or view computer properties
  1. In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
    , expand
    System
    >
    Computers and Groups
    >
    Computers
    , right-click the computer account, and select
    Properties
    .
  2. Edit these settings in the following tabs:
    • General
      • Computer
        . Enter the new
        Windows
        computer name for the computer, or select
        Browse
        (...) to browse for the computer.
      • Description
        . Enter or edit a description of the computer, or other data about the computer account, such as contact information.
      • Add
        . Select to add this computer to one or more computer groups.
      • Remove
        . Select to remove this computer from a group.
    • Directory Cache
      • Select
        Override Directory Cache Expiration Policy
        to set the cache expiration policy for the computer. Enter a number (0-9999) to specify the hours that the cache files remain available while the computer is disconnected from the FactoryTalk network directory server. The default value is 0, so that cache files never expire.
      • Select
        Override Directory Cache Warning Policy
        to set the cache warning policy for the computer. Enter a number (0-9999) to display a warning message on the computer the specified number of hours before the cache files expire.
    • Diagnostics
      • Enable or disable syslog forwarding for the computer. If a computer group has the syslog policy disabled, the syslog policy of computers in the computer group will be disabled and cannot be modified. If a computer group has the syslog policy enabled, you can modify the syslog policy of computers in the computer group as needed.
  3. Select
    OK
    to apply the edits to the computer.
