Locations and permissions of imported resource and action groups

In
FactoryTalk® Administration Console
or
FactoryTalk View Studio
, imported action groups and resources appear in different places in the
FactoryTalk Directory
, depending on the version of the
FactoryTalk® Automation Platform
or
FactoryTalk® Services Platform
installed, and on the choices made during the import.
  • Importing RSSecurity action groups with group memberships intact places the groups, with all associated actions, into the Action Groups folder in the
    FactoryTalk Directory
. Importing RSSecurity resource groups with group memberships intact prompts you to select an application or area as a destination for all of the resources within each group. Use this import method only if all of the computers in your
    FactoryTalk
    system have been updated to
    FactoryTalk Services Platform
    2.10 or later.
  • Importing RSSecurity action groups and resource groups as individual actions and resources creates individual actions or resources under the
    Networks and Devices
    folder in the
    FactoryTalk Directory
. Choose this import method if the computers in the
    FactoryTalk
    system are still running
    FactoryTalk Automation Platform
    2.00.

Action Group
If the resource is not a member of a resource group, but has an action group applied to it in the .bak file, then the action group is applied to the resource in the
Networks and Devices
tree.
The action group is created in the
Action Groups
folder of the
FactoryTalk Directory
. The group is given the same name as the action group in the .bak file.
Actions that are not supported in
FactoryTalk Directory
are not imported.
If the resource is not a member of a resource group, but has an action group applied to it in the .bak file, then the individual actions in the group are applied to the resource in the
Networks and Devices
tree.
The action group is unrolled—that is, the individual contents of the group appear where the group was previously located, and the permissions of each group are applied to the individual actions that existed previously in the group. These actions are applied to the hardware device listed in the
Networks and Devices
tree.
