How to register a router or device

The device registration and configuration procedure might differ, based on the device firmware version.

Stratix 4300
®
featuring a firmware version older than or equal to 4.0.2

  1. Access the FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager and select
    Explorer
    Domain view
    .
  2. Select the domain folder in which you want to register your device.
  3. Select the
    Add resource
    (
    circled plus
    button).
  4. Select
    Add device
    .
  5. Select
    Add device locally
    .
    NOTE: This dialog window may appears asking for permission to open the Tool. Prior to confirming, you can check
    Always allow checkbox to prevent this message from prompting again during this session
    . If you use a different computer or a different browser, this message will prompt again.
  6. In the
    Add device locally
    dialog window, enter the password by logging in as an
    Admin
    user. Then, a list displays the MAC addresses of the devices found on your network.
    NOTE: These credentials are the same that you use to access the device System Manager, and the default password for an admin user is
    admin
    . Refer to the device User Manual to learn more about System Manager. See https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/.
  7. Select the device that you want to add to your domain.
  8. Enter a device name in the
    Initial name
    field.
  9. Select
    Register
    .
    NOTE: You might be prompted to log in to your account, if you have not done it yet.

  1. Access the device System Manager through a browsing bar.
    NOTE:
    To access the device System Manager, enter the device IP address into a browsing bar. Then, enter
    admin
    as a username and
    admin
    as a default password.
    If you don’t know the IP address that is used to access your device System Manager, refer to the device User Manual on https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/ to learn more about the device factory settings or perform network discovery through
    Tools
    Device Setup
    .
  2. Select the
    FT Remote Access
    section, then click
    Connect
    . Wait until a connection is established.
    NOTE: If the remote device is not registered to any domain yet, the web page displays an ID along with a password used for device registration to the domain.
  3. To register the remote device, log in to FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager by using a user's account with
    Admin
    rights.
  4. In FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager, access the
    Explorer
    Domain view
    section and open the domain folder in which you want to store the remote device.
  5. Select
    Add resource
    (
    circled plus
    button), then select
    Add device
    .
  6. Select
    Add device remotely
    and enter the ID and password that you previously obtained by selecting
    Connect
    on System Manager.
  7. Select
    Save
    . The newly registered device is named
    <No name>
    in the previously selected folder and must be renamed.
  8. Rename the device.

featuring a firmware version 4.0.4 or newer

Embedded Egde Compute Module featuring a firmware version 4.0.4 or newer

  1. Access the device System Manager through a browsing bar.

  2. Select the

    Add resource

    circled plus
    button), then select
    Add device
    .
  6. Select
    Add device
    and enter the ID and password that you previously obtained by selecting
    Connect
    on System Manager.
  7. Select
    Save
    . The newly registered device is named
    <No name>
    in the previously selected folder and must be renamed.
  8. Rename the device.
