To determine whether an XML file is well-formed, open the file in Internet Explorer. If the XML code appears in Internet Explorer, the file is well-formed. If the file is not well-formed, Internet Explorer will show an error message. Advanced users of XML can create XML documents programmatically using programs such as Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Visual C++. For more information about XML, go to https://www.w3.org/XML/.
