What is the purpose of the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Assets Lifecycle?
Assets Lifecycle provides the lifecycle information for Rockwell Automation hardware devices in the system. It shows the lifecycle status in the form of a list that allows users to easily manage the hardware lifecycle and make decisions about which device needs to be upgraded or replaced.
How can Assets Lifecycle information be viewed in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre desktop client?
Assets Lifecycle information can be viewed by opening the Assets Lifecycle window through the main toolbar or by navigating to
View > Assets Lifecycle
.
From the Assets Lifecycle window, lifecycle status information can be presented in two ways:
  • Asset - Lists the assets from the asset tree. Parent nodes are kept to show the hierarchy.
  • Asset Inventory - Lists the assets of the RAAI file scanned by Asset Inventory. Parent nodes are kept to show the hierarchy.
Is an internet connection required for Assets Lifecycle synchronization functionality?
Yes. The FactoryTalk AssetCentre server requires an internet connection for automatic synchronization. An internet connection is also required on the FactoryTalk AssetCentre desktop client if the manual synchronization operation is performed.
Starting from FactoryTalk AssetCentre version 16.00, the

When performing the sync function, where is the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server retrieving the Assets Lifecycle information?
Assets Lifecycle information is retrieved from the Rockwell Automation Product Lifecycle Status system.
What URL can I add to my firewall allow list to allow communications between the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server and the Rockwell Automation Product Lifecycle Status system?
The FactoryTalk AssetCentre server requires access to https://api.rockwellautomation.com for Assets Lifecycle sync functionality.
Where is the Assets Lifecycle information stored?
This information is stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre database.
How can I synchronize the Assets Lifecycle information stored in my FactoryTalk AssetCentre database with the most current information available from Rockwell Automation?
This information can be synchronized either manually or automatically.
  • To manually trigger a synchronization, you must enter Design Mode in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre desktop client. From the Assets Lifecycle tab, the
    Sync
    button can be used to manually synchronize with the online Rockwell Automation Product Lifecycle Status system. A status window will appear to show the progress of the synchronization.
  • To automatically schedule synchronization, access the Assets Lifecycle options by opening
    Tools > Options > Assets Lifecycle
    via the FactoryTalk AssetCentre desktop client. The start time and frequency can be configured for the Assets Lifecycle synchronization operation.
Is an internet connection required for the Assets Lifecycle refresh action?
No. The refresh action updates the information on the FactoryTalk AssetCentre desktop client with the information stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre database.
Where can I find Lifecycle Status definitions?
Can I view the Lifecycle Status of Controller I/O?
Yes, I/O modules of a FactoryTalk AssetCentre asset can be associated to the controller to obtain I/O lifecycle information synchronized with the Product Compatibility and Download Center.
