Items in the Add Binder dialog box

When you add a binder, you can configure the following items in the
Add Binder
dialog box.
Name
Type a name for the asset as it should appear in the asset tree. The name must be unique within the parent container. That is, you can have two assets with the same name in the asset tree, they just can't be in the same container. If you add an asset into a container that has an asset of the same name, FactoryTalk AssetCentre will append a number (like
_2
) to the asset name to ensure uniqueness.
Asset names can be a maximum of 260 characters. The characters
\ / : * ? " < > |
are not allowed. The character pair
&#
is not allowed. A space, tab, underscore (_) or dollar sign ($) cannot be the first character in a name, but can be used elsewhere in the name. The following Microsoft Windows asset names cannot be used as asset names, whether upper or lower case, with or without the colon: CON:, PRN:, AUX:, NUL:, COM1:, COM2:, COM3:, COM4:, COM5:, COM6:, COM7:, COM8:, COM9:, LPT1:, LPT2:, LPT3:, LPT4:, LPT5:, LPT6:, LPT7:, LPT8:, and LPT9. For example,
Auxiliary Line
would be a valid name whereas
Aux Line
would not.
Description
(Optional) Type a description for the asset. The description will be shown in the
Archive
tab when the asset is selected in the asset tree.
Comments
(Optional) Type a comment about this action (adding the binder). This comment will appear in the History tab in
Archive
and the Audit log record for this action.
Source Folder
Specify the path to the folder containing the files and folders you want to place in the binder. You can click
Browse
to select the folder, or type the path according to the following examples.
\\ComputerName\folder
C:\folder
If you are adding a binder to hold files and folders from a remote computer, make sure the corresponding folder on the remote computer is shared and that you have access to the shared folder.
Key File Disk Path
Use the
Content
field below to select which file in the binder to use as the key file and then click
Set
.
Content
This field is empty until you use the
Source Folder
field to specify the files you want to place in the binder.
Shows the contents of the Source Folder in a tree structure similar to Windows Explorer. Click the plus and minus signs to expand and collapse parts of the tree. Use the
Expand All
and
Collapse All
buttons to fully expand the tree so all items are visible or to fully collapse the tree so only the top level folder is visible.
Icons within the tree indicate whether items in the tree will be included in the binder or not. Initially, all items are included in the binder.
  • included_in_binder Included in the binder.
  • excluded_from_binder Excluded from the binder.
Content Filters
Use the content filters to specify which files in the Source Folder to include and which to exclude from the binder.
  • Specify files to include
    The
    Include
list under Content Filters starts out with the entry * which means everything. Use the buttons to the left of the
    Include
list to add, modify, or remove filters in the list.
    • FilterAddButton
      Add
. Select a file or folder in the Content tree on the left, then click this button.
    • FilterModifyButton
      Modify
. Select a filter in the
      Include
list, then click this button. Use the
      Edit Filter
dialog box to make changes to the filter.
    • FilterDeleteButton
      Delete
. Select a filter in the
      Include
list, then click this button to remove it from the list.
  • Specify files to exclude
Sometimes it is more efficient to specify files to exclude from the binder rather than include. For example, suppose you want to include everything except files with the extension .bak. To do this you would add *.bak to the
    Exclude
    filter (with * in the
    Include
    filter).
    Click the FilterAdvancedButton
    Advanced
button to show the controls for excluding files. Use the buttons to the left of the
    Exclude
list to add, modify, or remove filters in the list.
    • FilterAddButton
      Add
. Select a file or folder in the Content tree on the left, then click this button.
    • FilterModifyButton
      Modify
. Select a filter in the
      Exclude
list, then click this button. Use the
      Edit Filter
dialog box to make changes to the filter.
    • FilterDeleteButton
      Delete
. Select a filter in the
      Exclude
list, then click this button to remove it from the list.
      TIP:
When setting up binders that will contain ACD files for Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 controllers, you may want to add an exclude filter of _bak*.acd to prevent ACD backup files being added to the binder every time it is checked in (if the Logix Designer software is set to create backup files).
  • Specify exclude exceptions
You may want to exclude all files of a certain type except for just a few particular files. Continuing the above example suppose you have excluded many files with the .bak extension but there is one file, 123109.bak, that you do want included in the binder. Use the buttons to the left of the
    Exclude Exceptions
list to add, modify, or remove filters in the list.
    • FilterAddButton
      Add
. Select an excluded file or folder in the Content tree on the left, then click this button.
    • FilterModifyButton
      Modify
. Select a filter in the
      Exclude Exceptions
list, then click this button. Use the
      Edit Filter
dialog box to make changes to the filter.
    • FilterDeleteButton
      Delete
. Select a filter in the
      Exclude Exceptions
list, then click this button to remove it from the list.
  • When different filters affect the same file
Suppose a particular file would be affected by a filter in more than one list (include, exclude, and exclude exceptions). The filters are processed in order, first include, then exclude, then exclude exceptions, so the last filter to operate on the file would take effect.
For example, the filters below affect a file in the root called W_wrap32.doc.
    Filter
    Affect
    Include
    *.doc
: This is the first filter processed. It says to include the file.
    Exclude
    W_*
: This second filter processed says to exclude the file. If these were the only two filters affecting the file, it would be excluded from the binder.
    Exclude exceptions
    *32.*
: This third and last filter processed makes an exception to the exclude, therefore, the file is included. Because this is the last filter processed, the file is included in the binder.
