Move the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server
On very rare occasions you may need to move the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server to another computer. One such instance might be if you need to upgrade the server computer.
If the FactoryTalk Network Directory is on the same computer as the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server, decide whether you will leave the FactoryTalk Network Directory on the current computer or move it with the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server. If you move the FactoryTalk Network Directory, this will have an impact on other Rockwell Software products that use the FactoryTalk Network Directory.
To move the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server (and the FactoryTalk Network Directory):
- Install IIS on the new computer. You may want to run Windows Update to make sure you have the latest IIS patches before proceeding.
- From theWindows ControlPanel, openAdd or Remove Programs.
- Click theAdd/Remove Windows Componentsicon.
- On the Windows Components Wizard, selectInternet Information Services (IIS). Follow the remaining steps in the wizard.
- Install SQL Server (and the most recent Service Packs) on the new computer.
- On the current server computer, back up the AssetCentre database using the tools provided in the SQL Server software.
- If you are also moving the FactoryTalk Network Directory, use theFactoryTalk Administration Consoleto back it up. Back up the entire Directory (not just an application or the System folder). See Back up an entire FactoryTalk Directory in theFactoryTalk online helpfor instructions. (Skip this step if you are not moving the FactoryTalk Network directory.)IMPORTANT:Backup archives do not include configuration and project information specific to particular software products. Back up and restore project files and databases from individual software products separately. See the topic After backing up a directory or application in the FactoryTalk online help.TIP:
- FactoryTalk Administration ConsolePart of the FactoryTalk Services Platform, FactoryTalk Administration Console is an optional, stand-alone tool that allows configuring, managing, and securing applications.
- FactoryTalk HelpTheFactoryTalk Helpcontains information on several FactoryTalk components including the FactoryTalk Administration Console, FactoryTalk Directory, and FactoryTalk Security. To access theFactoryTalk Help, selectStart > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Help.
- (optional) If you have RSLinx software on the existing server computer (which would be the case if you also have the Disaster Recoveryagentinstalled on that computer), then backup the RSLinx driver configuration, DDE/OPC topics, network shortcuts, CIP Options, Interchange port mappings, and associated registry entries. See theRSLinx online helpfor instructions.TIP:AgentA program that can be located and run on a computer to help another computer complete a task. Agents allow work to be distributed and shared among multiple computers to spread processing load and speed up operations. When a server needs an agent to perform a task, it locates a computer running the correct agent and assigns the task to that agent. The agent then reports the task's completion to the server. In FactoryTalk AssetCentre, agents are used to perform searches and the operations associated with purchased capabilities such as Disaster Recovery. Disaster Recover operations are Backup, and Backup and Compare. When you run a Disaster Recovery schedule, an agent actually performs the task. When you run a search, an agent performs that task.
- On the new computer, restore the AssetCentre database using the tools provided in the SQL Server software. If you backed up RSLinx information in step 5, restore that information on the new computer.
- On the new computer, use the SQL Server software to delete the AssetCentreUser SQL user. The FactoryTalk AssetCentre server installation will create this user and will fail if the user exists. In Microsoft SQL Server 2005:
- Select the AssetCentre database, underSecurity > Schemasdelete the AssetCentreUser.
- Select the AssetCentre database, underSecurity > Usersdelete the AssetCentreUser
In Microsoft SQL Server 2000:Select the AssetCentre database, underSecurity > Usersdelete the AssetCentreUser. - If you are also moving the FactoryTalk Network Directory, restore it to the new computer. SeeRestore a FactoryTalk Directory in theFactoryTalk online helpfor instructions. (Skip this step if you are not moving the FactoryTalk Network directory.)You may need to restore backups for other Rockwell Software products as well. You also need to check certain settings. See After restoring a FactoryTalk Directory in theFactoryTalk online help(available from the FactoryTalk Administration Console).
- Move all FactoryTalk AssetCentre activations to the new FactoryTalk AssetCentre server computer. For instructions, see Rehosting activations (moving activations to another computer) in theFactoryTalk Activation Manageronline help. For more information about activation see Activation in FactoryTalk AssetCentre.TIP:FactoryTalk Activation ManagerThe FactoryTalk Activation Manager is a software program that manages activations for the Rockwell Software products installed on the computer.Run the FactoryTalk Activation Manager from theWindows Startmenu:Start > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Activation Manager.(If you are using FactoryTalk Activation version CPR 9 SR 2 or earlier, this software was called the FactoryTalk Activation Tool.)
- Install the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server on the new server computer (including FactoryTalk Services Platform). Insert the FactoryTalk AssetCentre CD and selectInstall FactoryTalk AssetCentre Serverfrom the menu. During the installation, be sure to provide the correct FactoryTalk Network Directory location. See theFactoryTalk AssetCentre Installation Guidefor more installation instructions.
- Optional: Install the FactoryTalk AssetCentre agents on the new server computer. SelectInstall FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agentsfrom the installation menu.
- On each client computer in the system, runStart > Rockwell Software > Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location. Use this tool to specify the new FactoryTalk Directory on the new server. Reboot the client computer.
- On each agent computer in the system, runStart > Rockwell Software > Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location. Use this tool to specify the new FactoryTalk Directory on the new server. Reboot the agent computer.IMPORTANT:If you have purchased and installed the FactoryTalk AssetCenter Calibration Management capability, you must run the ProCalV5 Data Source Configuration program to connect the ProCalV5 database. SelectStart > Rockwell Software > ProCalV5 Data Source Configuration.
If you are not moving the FactoryTalk Network Directory
Perform all steps above (except for steps 4 and 8). Then use the Data Source Configuration wizard to update the SQL Server connection information that the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server uses to connect to the AssetCentre database. On the new server computer, select
Start > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk AssetCentre Data Source Configuration
and follow the instructions on the screen. If you have a TechConnect contract, you can also access knowledgebase article 46644 for instructions of how to move just the SQL database without moving the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server.
