Description
Provide redundancy using a secondary server
Select this check box to specify that you are providing redundancy for the HMI server. This makes the remaining data entry boxes in the tab available.
Computer hosting the server
Type the name of the computer that the secondary server will run on, or click the browse button to navigate to and select a computer.
Startup type
This is set in the General tab of the HMI Server Properties dialog box and is displayed here for information only. To be able to set up redundancy, the startup type must be set to
Load and run startup components when operating system initializes
.
Number of displays

Licensed maximum
Shows the number of graphic displays allowed by the FactoryTalk View SE Server license. This is for information only.
Switchover options
Select one of the following options:
  • Continue using the secondary server even when the primary server becomes available again
Select this option if the secondary server should not switch back automatically to the primary server when it becomes available. This is referred to as favoring the currently active server (
    FavorCurrent
). It is the default setting for new HMI servers. When it is selected, the system continues to use the secondary server even after the primary server becomes available.
When a redundant HMI server pair is set up to use
    FavorCurrent
, if the primary and secondary servers are started at the same time, the first server to become ready, becomes the active server.
Clients remain connected to an active server until a controlled switchover is initiated by the user, or the active server fails.
  • Switch over to the primary server when it becomes available
When you select this option, the system automatically switches from an active secondary server back to the primary server when it becomes available. This is referred to as favoring the primary server (
    FavorPrimary
    ).
When a redundant server pair is set up to use
    FavorPrimary
, the primary server becomes active as soon as it is ready, and the client will switch their connection from the secondary server to the primary.
When a server is set to
    FavorPrimary
, there is no controlled switchover mechanism available to switch between the active and standby servers. The primary is regarded as the preferred server and always become active as soon as it is ready.
Replicate Active to Standby
Click this button to copy HMI project information from the currently Active HMI server to the Standby HMI server.
This option is only available if
Provide redundancy using a secondary server
is selected, and one HMI server is active and the other is standby.
To automatically save the project online edits to both active and standby servers, in
FactoryTalk View Studio
, from the menu, select
Tools
>
Options
. On the
Settings
tab, make sure the
Save edits to both active and standby HMI servers
option is selected. To keep the HMI memory tag values the same on both active and standby servers, on the same tab, select the
Auto synchronize HMI memory tag values to both active and standby HMI servers
option.
